Why the silence on the Chinese tariffs on Canadian products? 100% tariff on agricultural products such as canola and peas; 25% on Canadian seafood? Where's the outrage?

Was China our longstanding ally / closest friend? No, so there's your answer.

China-Canada relations have been in the dumps since Trump ripped up the Iran nuclear deal, which forced the arrest of Meng Wanzhou.

There's quite a lot of outrage about the Chinese seafood tariffs in Atlantic Canada. I'm sure there's lots of outrage about the agricultural tariffs too, no?

Where's the outrage about our 100% tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles?

We went through this about a week or two ago (and 20-30 pages ago).

China has a long history of using these tariffs to manipulate its market. While we don't LIKE those tariffs, they're basically part and parcel of dealing with them economically.

With America, we have a long history of open trade with them, and a long history of them being a strong ally, basically our brother. While they may have done some focused tariffs occasionally (Softwood lumber anyone?), they've generally kept an open economic policy with Canada, until now.

So now that they're throwing these tariffs around willy nilly, it's hurting us a hell of a lot more, AND it's a personal betrayal.

Add on top of that the talk of annexing us, and it's extra salt in the wound; China isn't talking about us becoming a colony after all.

Furthermore, while China-Canada trade is important, Can-Us trade is basically our backbone, so changes to THAT affect us a hell of a lot more than China doing its quarterly roll of the Wheel of Tariffs.

I kinda hope carney wins cause I wanna see where this shit show is gonna go.

My prediction is carney and trump will make a “European style” North American union, offering us protection for access to our resources. possibly dissolving the Canadian currency and making it easier for the rich to get richer.

Remember when lefties were against businessmen running government, because businessmen are bad and government is not a business.
Which is why he met with Macron and Starmer before even speaking to Donald Trump? Also explains why he paused the purchase of F-35’s.

Meanwhile the cpc cheerleader Stormy Danielle does podcasts with Ben Shapiro and Breitbart seeking election interference and saying PP is in sync with Trump.

Makes perfect sense.

In other words, Chinese tariffs - Good; USA tariffs - Bad. China doesn't need to talk about Canada becoming a colony. They've done a good job using its diaspora to infiltrate Canada through election interference, transnational repression, social media influence, access to senior politicians, etc.

Trying to find our free trade agreement with China. Trying to find how we are their strongest ally and customer. Right - we aren't and have been in an active trade war with them to be aligned with America.

I know this doesn't fit the Conservative / Pierre / Danielle narrative... Canada did not win yesterday although they would like us to believe that.

Yes, China has tried and failed at all of that.

Under Harper they signed some deal that lead to closer collaboration. Including having the Chinese military on Canadian soil. Thankfully the Liberals killed that.

Over the past number of years China has tried to manipulate Canada to let one of its corporate executive out of jail. That failed.

While careful monitoring of China is needed. Its not clear they are the greatest threat we face.

Please don’t even try to label me -and what my values and identity are. You have zero idea.

The primary industry of my province… Oil AND gas…. Of fucking COURSE it’s incredibly important to me! It’s the industry that pays my bills, feeds my mouths, WTF is your problem for questions it’s importance to me?!

It’s what drives this fucking province, what makes it so desirable, god forbid I take pride in that!?

It’s like the only national identity or pride for you to completely bash the industry, and bash those politicians that support it!

Like, why the fuck is southern Ontario auto industry so up in arms with these tariffs, who cares if it affects their working lives, is that their identity!

Then we get a federal government who STILL insists on handicapping the industry during the worst trade war in history!! How the F does that make sense to you?!

Please tell me, I am challenging you, to convince me, how it makes sense for the federal government to co tiune to support a bill that significantly handicaps to prohibits the development of nation building infrastructure projects.

Jesus what is wrong with you.

Another loser post that adds no value.

You sink to levels far below than those who you try to bash.

Your insanely childish name calling.. Stormy Danielle… really?!… surely there’s a little children’s forum you can play around in while real debate and discussion can be had amongst adults in this one… run away now.

Or keep it up… keep reminding me of how immature you are when you go off the rails about how dysfunctional this province is.

Sorry my mistake, I don’t why I would claim that.

Alberta's population surged by record-setting 202,000 people. Here's where they all came from

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/a...0migrants,a%20net%20gain%20of%2015%2C250.

Maybe it’s just a bunch of lunatics that make their way west? I dunno.

I wonder if the retirement has to do with warmer weather? Not sure, you should go find out.

More like Chinese Tariffs == the flu; something you get regularly, can try to inoculate against, and annoying when they happen, but mostly accounted for and controllable.

American Tariffs == COVID. A Global pandemic that came out of nowhere, is hard to handle and protect against, and extremely disruptive.

If you are unlucky enough to get the Flu and COVID at the same time, well, you're probably screwed, but most of your attention is going to be spent trying to cope with COVID while you let your normal patterns handle the flu and hope it doesn't also blow up too bad in the meanwhile.

Given that AB is exporting more oil than at any point in its history, it's kinda hard to see this supposed "handicapping". And personally, I don't think you'll see oil exports go down at any point this decade, regardless of who is in charge federally. I also don't think a Conservative government will be able to ignore the Constitution and ram through pipelines through other provinces. So I guess the question is which government you believe will be able to win over other provinces enough for you guys to grow even more.

If autoworkers complained and moaned and Doug Ford went on and on and threatened Canada I'm pretty sure Albertans would tell him to shut it.

Albertans oil unfortantely for the most part other than Canada and the US no one else wants - that is a big problem. Other markets have no capacity to refine it and if we refined it we wouldn't be able to sell it because it would be priced out. The Americans already own lik 70% of the oil sands - you think they'll just let us trade it with China. Those are facts.

Also tired of the narrative that the rest of Canada does nothing for Alberta and that the Liberals are so bad. Since Harper left office - oil production UP by 29% - miracle of miracles... and oh you're welcome.

Weather is the number one reason most people retire in bc…. Do you know how shitty it is trying to navigate ice literally everywhere when you’re disabled or using a walker.

Breaking a hip can be deadly.

I have been dealing with lower back issues and the ice everywhere is hell.

I am so goddamned tired of hearing conservatives whine about pipelines and eastern Canadians and deny the reality of anthropogenic climate change. It’s nauseating and just plain tiring. All it does is piss off the rest of the country. We’re the richest fucking province with the biggest fucking cry babies.

You’d hate it in Calgary. Just got another dump of snow after the one yesterday melted then re-froze under the snow.
