This election is kind of depressing given the supposed circumstances. There is no broader economic strategy or nation building being proposed here.

It's the standard issue [Select voter demographic] -> [Select bribe(tax cut/tax credit/redistributive scheme)] short-sighted Canadian politics.

I mean that stuff has it's place...but that's all it ever is.

The federal government in Canada acts as nothing more than complex Rube Goldberg redistribution center at this point. Let's hope we never do get invaded because the Federal Governments first instinct would be like a tax credit on hunting rifles or something lol.

You need to look at the World around us. In America, this would not even be a big deal, it one was as Republican. Look at Trump, Hegseth, or Matt Gaetz. 100 times worse.

The only difference is one group is White, and one is Indigenous. Very telling you don't say anything about Scott Moe. At least Wab Kinew never killed anyone.

I am glad I am not the only one who feels this way.

We're actually having an entire election based on TDS (Trump Defence Strategy) and while I don't disagree that it's a huge issue, we're really choosing based solely on this and whomever that is will still be governing us on everything else for the next four years (possibly with a majority in Parliament).

No one on here has been suggesting that Scott Moe could be a favourite to be Prime Minister of Canada one day.

Do we even have a Trump Defence Strategy or is there overwhelming sentiment that makes people vulnerable to voodoo theories of how Trump could be managed or mitigated?

It seems like it was more or less:

Mad -> Dump Liberals
Scared -> Keep Liberals

A correct nation building strategy would make Canada more resilient to Trump and these problems of overreliance on the US and inability to develop domestically have been discussed forever.

You and I both know I was responding to another poster, that stated he could not believe Manitobans voted for Kinew, based on his criminal record when he was in his early 20s.

Stop gaslighting the forum.

I didn't know about Scott Moe either, and would never vote for him or any of those Republicans in the first place. Are any of them realistic prospects to lead the federal NDP?

If you have the time to make a list of every single politician that's ever committed a crime feel free to share it with me and I'll give you my opinion on all of them to ensure I pass your purity test in the future.

Sorry, no excuses. I'm glad that Kinew has apparently turned his life around and is not beating up Indian cab drivers anymore, but a man who took part in a racially motivated attack on another will never get my vote unless the alternative is something absurd (like literally voting for Hitler).

Hot take but if the Liberals win a majority no one could articulate what their mandate is beyond vibes...

It's a party run by a centre-right PM that is co-opting CPC policies yet pulling significant NDP support.

That's a massive tent of views. What are you actually going to get in terms of policy with that? What Liberal party are you actually getting?

And if you had followed the discussion, it was about who might potentially lead the federal NDP after Jagmeet Singh. Are members of Trump's cabinet looking to move up north and run?

But like I said - feel free to share a list of every single politician you want me to comment on.

Actually, if LPC gets majority, they can claim mandate to counter Trump and throw under the bus the supporters that would have otherwise voted for NDP.

Dude, you are the one who mentioned that you "could not believe Manitobans voted for Kinew, with his record. I pointed out that there are a slew of politicians that have committed offences just as bad, if not worse than Kinew.

As for your list, should I separate the records of Caucasians with non-Caucasians for your benefit. If I did not know any better, your posts on this subject condemning Kinew, while glossing over Moe and others in the GOP, reeks of underlying prejudice/racism towards First Nations people.

This is precisely the problem with the Conservative posters here. I mention how Kinew has turned his life around, and that all people should be given a second chance, and they use it to crucify a man that has not had a conviction since 2004, when he was 22.

Exactly.

BlackDog himself posted about how Kinew got into martial arts to control his anger and how he can still visibly see how the Premier struggles to control his temper in the legislature and with the media.

I have not witnessed this at all from Kinew (I admittedly don't follow him closely) but I certainly don't have to fight with myself daily to contain my anger. What about you?

To copy the style of some other posters on here, what I stinking steaming pile of bullshit this is.

I apologise.

I was not aware that one had to be a saint to enter Canadian politics. Seriously, you are the epitome of the Conservative movement of Canada. Hatred and division. This is precisely why I am voting for a party with a Leader, who not only stands up for Canadian values, but wants to unite us. Have fun at the hate fest, when Poilievre comes to do a rally in your city.

Yeesh.

There was nothing to gloss over - no one had mentioned Moe at that point in the conversation (or is he also planning a run for federal NDP leadership). I did not know about Moe. Is that surprising to you, considering I didn't know about Kinew until about an hour ago? Sorry to break it to you, but most people outside of the prairies don't pay a whole lot of attention to prairie politics. Besides, I obviously would never support Moe or his politics in the first place. His DUI history is just another reason for me to pay no attention to him.

There's a huge difference between being a saint and beating up taxi drivers because of their accent or the colour of their skin.
I liked the vibes around Wag until now. He still might be a decent guy. This history of his is very disappointing and makes voting for him a complete nonstarter.

It's funny that you bring up the example of Hegseth in your whatboutism - that's exactly the type of politician I want to avoid in this country. If we start forgiving our politicians for being racist dickheads, then it won't be long until we start normalizing people like Hegseth too.

With 33 days to go until the election, Liberals have widened their lead, and are in majority territory.
