Lots of hubris here. Covid was excellent evidence that people when given the chance will simply comply with the herd. Everyone wants to think they’re the ones who would be part of the resistance in a tyranny, when precisely the opposite is true. We also discovered that people in positions of authority are way more likely to wield it heavy handedly than to exercise restraint. The mismanagement of authority during the pandemic has set back trust in public institutions decades.
