Absolutely that! Trump attempting damage control is like pouring gasoline on a fire.

Pierre is nothing like trump, Pierre has morals, unlike carney who steals from small businesses and hangs out with the spouse of a man convicted of child sexual abuse.
Your comments are getting very desperate in supporting PP. I warned you and others quite awhile ago that PP would be in trouble if Trump won again.

You made your bed of Trump, Musk, Peterson, Jones, etc. Now you get to lie in it and very glad it is so uncomfortable. Looks good on PP.
I dunno man… if you’re voting for a guy who said he guarantees he will artificially increase the prices of things like steel, in the midst of a trade war with our closest trading partner. That kind of policy on one’s own country is almost as ridiculous as implementing a 25% tariff on your closest trading partners, pretty stupid… sounds like a carney is making his bed with the American folk with that kind of leadership.. the beauty about democracy, you can still vote for the guy who wants to further economic hardship of upstream industry!

Yes, even before this absolutely bonkers stuff about Canada becoming the 51st state, Trump getting reelected spelled trouble for PP's likelihood of getting a majority. After everything Trump has said in the last few months, the question is now, "will PP's CPC's even be able to win a minority?"

Trump winning was always going to impact the Canadian election, and to the detriment of Poilievre and the Conservatives... However, now, after everything Trump has done and said in regards to Canada, he's become the definitive issue of the Canadian election.

Petty Pierre's decision to brand Mark Carney with a "catchy" Trump style nickname in "Carbon Tax Carney" 🙄 was a major miscalculation. Doubling down on trying to make the carbon tax and the soon to be former PM the definitive issues of the election is an eceptionally poor strategy for PP and the CPC... these Trump style attack ads and sloganeering are really hurting Poilievre's appeal to the so called, "Red Tories" and "Blue Liberals" who have "dealing with Trump" at the very top of their lists when it comes to their votes in the next election... not J.T. and not the C.T.

For all the boomers on youtube who don't have an adblocker installed (most of them), probably about 60% or more of the ads they are going to see before watching a video about Trump will be one of these "Carbon Tax Carney/ Just like Justin" ads, which just further reinforces how similar Poilivere and the Conservatives are to Trump and the Republicans.

Your assuming the US is the only supplier of stuff. The objective of retaliatory tariffs is to go after products that can easily be substituted from other countries.

So we are going to get steel domestically, form Brazil or China.

I’m not following. I didn’t make any assumptions, carney literally said he will implement the carbon tax on Canada’s upstream industries like steel. Is he going to implement that carbon tax on suppliers from other countries too, like Brazil, like China, or is he planning on just targeting Canadian suppliers?

Carbon tax is already there. He is leaving it alone.

What may happen is carbon tax gets added to good imported from countries without free trade or their own carbon tax. The EU is doing the same thing.

Has Pierre Poilievre gone to Washington yet? If Donald Trump puts tariffs on Canada next week, it could be game over for him.

The conservatives have deep ties to the Trump administration, and they all want him to win the next election.

Jamil Jivani is literally best friends with J.D. Vance.

Ok, so why would he leave it there? Wouldn’t you think that in these desperate times the leader would do all he can to make his country’s economy as competitive as possible? Literally, corporations in Canada are packing up at parking their operations in Trump’s own backyard, at least that is what Carney did with the one he chaired 8 weeks ago….

Has Canada’s current sitting Prime Minister even gone to Washington?

I know he went to Mar a Lago and told Trump Canada’s economy is reliant on the USA, which is actually how this whole 51st state thing started.

It wouldn’t actually be that bad to have an inside man in Washington, wouldn’t ya think.

The EU is moving towards a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). CBAM will place a carbon tax on imports from countries that do not have their own carbon tax.

It is not just the EU. We have South Korea, Australia, Taiwan, UK, and Turkey have in place or are brining in CBAMs. This is about protecting our access into the non-US industrial markets in the world.

Yes, we need to have a industrial carbon tax structure on our exports to ensure we have open free trade with the non-US countries we are exports to.

i think Carney understands this far better than the conservatives. He use to be the UN Envoy that helped negotiate these international trade rules. Which international trade agreements and standards was PP involved in negotiating? Have PP even attended an international trade conference or climate change conference on behave of Canada when the conservatives were in power?

Even if the major western economies of the world were not doing this, its the right thing to do domestically. Having our major population centers less dependent on oil is a good thing.

Multiple ministers have made multiple trips to Washington over the past few weeks. There is a co-ordinate systematic plan a foot. The premiers (including conservatives) have also headed down to the US to try to influence their counterparts. The conservative premiers have attended conservative leaning events with US governors to push the Canada agenda.

Here is just one article of multiple ones: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/capitol-hill-the-house-1.7471641

JT has have face-to-face meeting with Trump as well multiple phone calls.

I’m not sure Trudeau, Carney, or Poilievre going to meet Trump is a good idea, especially after the Zelensky ambush. All it takes is Trump or his cronies stepping over the line for the whole thing to go south. These guy are the worst to deal with because their egos are huge and they’ll throw a tantrum easily. I think the best move is for the ministers to continue to work the people around Trump and have him come to the conclusion himself that Tariffs are a bad idea politically and economically. Having to confront him directly is a delicate thing.

I would agree with that.

While Trudeau, Carney, or Poilievre all have different personalities, I think it would be a high risk move while issues are on the table for the meeting.

We will see what happens in the summer when Carney hosts the G7. I would assume by that point Trump will decide to attend by video conference. He had face to face meeting with three world leaders this week. None of them went particularly well for Trump.

By the summer, the US probably won't be in the G7 anymore. Trump will start his own G-whatever group, and have that meeting at Mar-A-Lardo the same week.

I hear President Adolph Drumpf is planning a new summit partnership - the A3, with membership limited to three charter archetypical tyrannical dictatorships - the United States, Russia and North Korea (also known as the New Axis of Evil).

I think there's a non-zero chance that Trump caves on China. There's Trump administration officials who have said they wouldn't mind Taiwan being a part of China. And there's also Elon's ties and dependence on China, which would be disqualifying for a security clearance in any other government (inside or outside the US).

We are entering the final week of Justin Trudeau's tenure as Prime Minister.
I was getting into a debate about what comes next for Justin Trudeau in the future. Some people say he will find a new career path and others question what is next for him.

What does this board think, when it comes to Justin Trudeau's next move?

I'm not sure there is much room in Canadian corporate boardrooms for an ex drama teacher.

Write his memoire.

Probably try and get some sort of United Nations directorship.

Mayor of Okotoks.

Because there are a number of things to do.
