The de-icing line at YVR today was intense.

Porter is adding Vancouver YVR to Hamilton YHM from June 3 - end of November 2025 for (S25).

Wonder *if* either 1 of Air Canada, WestJet or Flair retaliates by adding YVR to YHM as well? Will see

It was that way almost continuously, or so it felt like it, through February 3rd.

Words is that the flight will start in June, 4x weekly.

If true, then there should be an announcement soon. Although it haven't received the license from Transport Canada yet...

[EDIT]
AC now increase YVR-DUB to 5x weekly from June-Sept. The route remains 3x weekly in May and Oct.

Now the questions are.. AC only have slot for 14x weekly in DUB, but plan to do 7x from YYZ, 5x from YVR and 4x from YUL. So where did they get the extra slots from?
Also, I cannot find other route being reduced, so where does they get the plane to operate the extra 2x weekly flights on Mon and Fri?

I just noticed the DUB increase to 5x weekly as well, had to check the previous page to confirm if it was 3x weekly or I was mixing things up. Another positive update, 3x weekly up to 5x weekly, and staying on the 789. From what I can see, there are no cuts on any of AC's international routes ex-YVR either, so the mystery plane was not reallocated from an international reduction. The only other routes that operate the 789 are domestic eastern. The only one I can verify hasn't changed is YOW, still x6 weekly 789. I can never keep track of equipment on YVR-YYZ/YUL, it's always a mish mash. Currently YYZ has 2x daily and YUL is 1x daily for 789. No idea if those routes originally had more 789s and have been replaced, but those are the only other places the aircraft operates ex-YVR. I love the suspense lol, I really hope this means we may get another route to match the cycling, but I'm being conservative and not having unrealistic expectations, we already got a lotta adds. But we should really have DXB year-round, the 4x weekly winter only is ridiculous, can do better. Or of course the ultimate wish, somewhere in South America lol, I can dream

AC appears to have pulled some widebodies from YYC domestic this summer.
Only two daily 333s (1 to YYZ and 1 to YUL) and one daily 789 to YUL.
There used to be more 789 flying so perhaps some of this capacity is being reallocated.

I thought most of the domestic widebodies are either hot spare or filling the gap between two international turns. So they aren't saving much by removing domestic widebodies.

Compare current S25 schedule with S24, this is the difference in long hual weekly widebody flights:

YVR+8, YYZ+6, YOW+4, YUL+3

Total is 21 weekly. This is not including the 10 weekly flights to TLV that is slated to resume by May.
The YUL+3 is on top of the "temporary" 3x weekly ATH flights which later move to YUL-CDG during the Olympics.

So how will AC manage to squeeze out 21 or 31 weekly flights out of a single 789 (plus 2x 763 where I was told will not be used for TATL flights)?

Yes & In (S24) *if* I’m not mistaken Calgary YYC had up to 5+ domestic Air Canada widebodies and most of it was on the AC Boeing 787-9✅.

YVR marks second-highest passenger count in airport history, breaks cargo record in 2024

MUSQUEAM TERRITORY and RICHMOND, BC, Feb. 10, 2025 /CNW/ - Vancouver International Airport (YVR) announced today that it has recorded the second-highest passenger count in its history, with 26.2 million travellers passing through the airport in 2024.

This five per cent increase over the previous year's 24.9 million travellers is a testament to YVR's domestic and international connectivity, and continuous work with airlines and tourism and business organizations to strengthen its position as a global hub. YVR has surpassed the 26 million milestone only once before—in 2019, welcoming 26.3 million travellers.

In addition, YVR moved 339,000 tonnes of cargo in 2024, setting a new record. This represents a seven per cent increase over 2023's volume of 316,000 tonnes and surpassed YVR's previous record of 338,000 tonnes back in 2018.

"I want to thank the 26,000 employees across Sea Island and YVR who are dedicated to ensuring our airport operates safely, while providing a positive experience for travellers here at home and from all over the world. I also want to thank our airline partners and federal government service agencies who work with us to connect B.C. proudly to the world, every day," said Tamara Vrooman, President & CEO at YVR.

In 2024, domestic travellers were up 0.3 per cent compared to 2023. Transborder flights – between YVR and U.S. destinations – also saw significant passenger growth, with a 9.7 per cent increase versus the previous year. International flights witnessed a substantial 10.4 per cent increase in travellers compared to 2023.

YVR's growing passenger and cargo numbers reflect the airport's position as Canada's second busiest airport, and its role as a critical economic engine for Metro Vancouver and the province. YVR is now host to 51 airlines serving 120 destinations across the country and around the world.

According to analysis recently completed for YVR, the airport's contribution to Canada's GDP is approximately $15 billion. The economic impact extends far beyond the airport itself. A daily year-round wide-body international flight, such as Air Canada's service from YVR to Shanghai, will generate $33 million in GDP. It also supports nearly 400 jobs at the airport and in industries such tourism and hospitality, while opening the door for new growth opportunities.

"With our continued focus on increasing accessibility, investing in innovation and building towards a future as an intermodal transportation hub, we are further strengthening YVR's position as critical supply chain infrastructure supporting local and global connectivity," concluded Vrooman.

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is a diverse global hub that connects people, cargo, data, and ideas and serves as a platform for our community to come together and thrive. We are motivated by supporting regional economic development and making a positive difference in the lives of British Columbians. We do this with a focus on serving our passengers, partners, workers, and community through digital modernization, climate leadership, reconciliation, and financial sustainability.

YVR-PEK being reduced to 4x weekly through the summer season, x125

Days 15 reallocated to DUB
Day 2 will join the other plane on late night rotation, staying on YVR

This change (moving PEK to DUB) and the previous (moving PEK/PVG to KIX) shows that PEK is likely not performing too well for AC..

I guess for the summer, pick Tues or Wed to travel internationally to minimize the chance of your flight being delayed

So next year, YVR will be +5 weekly using an extra 789, with off-days on Tuesday and Tuesday. Changes for each destination:
MNL +4
PEK +4
PVG +3
DUB +1
KIX -2
BNE -2
HKG -3

================================

[EDIT 2/23]
Looks like AC added Tuesday flight back for BNE starting June 17. So I guess the schedule is pretty much finalized for S25.

Update to the previous post

So next year, YVR will be +6 weekly using an extra 789, with off-day on Tuesday. Changes for each destination:
MNL +4
PEK +4
PVG +3
DUB +1
BNE -1
KIX -2
HKG -3

Words is that CA is planning to move some PEK-YVR to PEK-YYZ with the help of AC JV. Looks like 3 of the 4x weekly operated by CA is currently selling for full fare only. And words is also that PEK-YYZ is planned to be 3x weekly.

So if this is true, this essentially reduce YVR-PEK from planned 11x weekly to just 5x weekly next summer. Guess the route is doing very very poorly for both AC and CA...

Maybe this change will help AC eventually sustain the daily PEK flight starting W25...

Do you happen to know why this route is doing so badly? Will it do better from Toronto? And also will CA reduce to 3 weekly flights and AC keep 4?

I can’t believe nobody mentioned this. So much for federal government assets benefitting all Canadians equally.

The federal government has announced an agreement to share revenue generated by Vancouver International Airport (YVR) ground lease revenues with the Musqueam First Nation.

The deal was signed at a ceremony held at the Musqueam Cultural Centre in Vancouver on Monday and is being heralded as the first major federal government infrastructure to have any form of Indigenous revenue sharing…

Zipair will be increasing Vancouver to 6 weekly up from 5 weekly from May by 8th - August 14th - on Aeroroutes twitter
Also heard Starlux is trying to gain approval for daily yvr flights along with EVA trying to add an extra daily flight - Hong Kong airlines is also trying to add 3 more weekly flights apparently. Turkish airlines want to increase Vancouver to five weekly for the summer but was denied by Canada so hopefully they can strike a deeper deal with Air Canada and bring that dream to reality. TWAY air also will be starting four weekly flights in June according to google and other sources! Lots of exciting additions for YVR this summer. Only negative is Beijing will be heavily reduced but nname already mentioned that above.

It looks like Fiji airways will bring the 330-200 back to Vancouver next winter and drop the seasonal increase to 3 weekly. Sad I hope they change this.

They’ve always been 3x weekly high season (Dec/Jan and Jul/Aug) and 2x weekly the rest of the year. So frequency is the same. And they’ve also been intermittently subbing A330 in place of the A350 they usually send so again not a major decrease overall.
