I mean his announcement yesterday of cutting back social spending and focusing on capital should satisfy you on this front, I would hope.

Trudeau's problem is that he has run up the debt on massive social spending - Carney is indicating that era is over.

He certainly seems like he will restrain growth. Actual cuts is more debatable. If we get a short campaign with Trump lobbing tariff bombs in the middle of we might not get really detailed platforms on spending. I'd lean towards Poilievre having a 2029 budget that is closer to Carney but it's not certain. Poilievre is also likely to cut taxes towards the end of his mandate, Carney may continue the Liberal tax increases on wealth.

Lastly while Prime Ministers run things another big factor is the team that comes with Carney and Poilievre. Carney is likely to have people like Guilbault who as was mentioned elsewhere will insist on a certain climate ideology at least on some key issues. Meanwhile a Conservative cabinet is likely to have some equally ideological ministers in the other direction.

Thanks Captain Obvious.

As for the rest of your comment. Maybe. Maybe not. What's the relevance to the price of tea in China?

PP a rebel? lol. Thanks for the laugh.

A far more realistic guess, is that young people are more susceptible to misinformation of social media, in particular Twitter and Facebook, where right wing influencers are far more prevalent than moderate or left wing influencers. Traditionally, young people are more likely to vote for progressive candidates than people over 35.

This isn’t rocket science, young people have been screwed by the Liberal Gerontocracy’s Ponzi scheme.

We might well need that kind of collapse to shift LPC back to the centre.

Even then, despite the possible shift of LPC towards the centre, this election may still be divisive.

The youth are far more unhappy in Canada than older generations, as per the World Happiness Report. That’s what’s dragging Canada down in the rankings. They want change but also likely have much less sense of what the Cons are actually like in federal power.

He's been in Parliament for over 15 years now. In fact, he first qualified for his pension 15 years ago, as Rick Mercer points out:

I'll fix this for you. Young people have been screwed over by their own parents.

In the sense their parents elected the Liberal Gerontocracy.

More that their parents are relying on real estate prices to remain high to fund their retirement.

With the Trudeau Liberals more than willing to do their bidding and sell out young people to keep housing prices and rent astronomical. Katie Telford's grand strategy to keep the OK Boomer base on side.

Funny that young people's legitimate grievances are just written off as noise by Liberal strategists, and they're tarred and feathered as youngins susceptible to misinformation of social media if they're not voting for the natural governing party of Canada. Clearly there's something adrift with the progressive options in Canada today if they're scaring off young voters.

I also notice how the notion of air-headed young people has evolved over time to encompass any age range below the Boomers or Gen X. Now the naive group includes 30-40 year olds while the 60-70+ crowd is supposedly wiser, more informed, and I guess more able to navigate misinformation on the internet (lol).

Weird take. "Ok Boomer" has been a way to brush off the concerns of older folks who "don't get it" for years now.

Every generation thinks the older one is out of touch, and the younger one is naive/stupid. This is nothing new.

I don't think you understand my point. Back in the 90's, you would see this applied to something like teenagers versus 40 year olds, and there was more truth to it. Now more and more frequently you see people implicitly applying it to much older demographics, like 30-somethings versus 60-somethings.

I did not bring up "OK Boomer" and I was replying to an earlier post talking about how 18-40s are more prone to misinformation.

The reality is that people usually are more mature in their 30's and 40's than they are as teenagers, and there tends to be cognitive decline particularly in the 70's and 80's. And it's natural for a demographic that received a huge windfall and retired early to be out of touch with the job market or rental market. Younger people are more in touch with their own financial situation.

I don't think the idea that the 20-45 demographic is more susceptible to fake news on the internet than old people is true. As one example, Trump, basically fake news incarnate, has the most support in the 45+ male demographic. I'd bet that a disproportionate number of Canadian MAGA types are in this age demographic.

I was exposed to two political ads this morning on Youtube. Both were "Carbon Tax Carney".

The conservatives need a better strategy than mounting attack ads that solely focus on what has become yesterday's news.

The conservatives have sewn up their "base", so their mindless sloganeering is falling on deaf ears. If they want to appeal to wavering voters, this is not the way to do it.
