Actually “carbon tax Carney” is pretty good. Alliterative, easy to remember and paints a perfect picture of his past public stance.

Yes he’s centrist except for climate issues. It’s therefore a great slogan for a summer of 2024 campaign. Nobody cares anymore. We are in an existential fight. Francophone Quebecers seem to be flocking to the Liberals. Ontario remains split and Atlantic Canada seems to be reverting to their natural Liberal state. All of that adds up to a Liberal win unless the Conservatives can turn the tide in Ontario.

I saw a pretty good Liberal ad online showing PP repeatedly stating "Canada is broken" and "everything is broken" over and over and over again in different settings, followed quickly by a transition to Trump shrugging his shoulders and saying "I want Canada to be the 51st state."

Simple and powerful. It was designed to display PP as a leader who would not stand up for Canada.

This tariff stuff may pass soon enough.

I get the feeling the CPC are sitting on a bunch of ads until the Carney is in. Then unleash. Freeland is not that far behind.

There is more than enough quote ammo on Carney pushing carbon taxes. Especially now that Canadas economy is taking a turn for the worst. Carney will be sold as continuation of the same by the CPC.

GST holiday ends tonight. Let’s see how people feel about the federal party leaders after this.
There’s a reason that Singh said that it should continue.

These two things don’t seem contradictory or exclusive of each other. The parties are basically engaging in a competition of who can wave the flag the hardest right now or be seen as the toughest on Trump, and Liberals are hoping their track record over the last ten years gets forgotten in the midst of the threats. But many things are “broken” in this country at the moment and wanting to fix them doesn’t mean you’ll roll over to the United States. If promising a return to the way things were and were trending in earlyNovember 2024 is the best that can be offered, then the future of this country is looking pretty grim.

I wouldn't count on that (tariffs seem to basically comprise Trump's entire approach to foreign policy). But it is likely that we will become partially inured to repeated threats, if the tariffs don't materialize. Regardless, we have a POTUS who sees allies including Canada as economic adversaries rather than partners.

Visceral opposition to the Carbon Tax is sort of strange. For most families, the effect is neutral (with the rebate).

Somebody decided it should be front and centre as an election issue, which was (apparently) fine and dandy until Dumbald Trump unleashed his tariff and annexation threats.

And still, there are people here that support Trump. Unbelievable.

It is a crown corporation. I expect our crown corporations to not be killing people, and when they are I fully expect the minister who is responsible to step in. I’m such a communist.

Do you think our governments don’t tell business how to run? What the fuck are safety standards? Minimum wage? Are these mere suggestions?

I just watched a Joe Clark interview, where he said in response "Canada is not broken". The time for negativity isn't now, but perhaps Poilievre can be a Trump whisperer, who knows? (Trump said he doesn't care what Poilievre says.)

So Kingston recently became the third Ontario municipality to declare a food emergency.

One in three is food insecure.

Please continue to vote liberal maybe we can double it by 2026

Trump is a convenient distraction for the Liberals.

CPC just need to stay on message. Canada is much worse off then it was 10 years ago. Only the same will continue with Liberals. Especially under Trump.

Carney is basically a 60 year old white male version of Kamala. Anointed leader. Will get slight bump because the incumbent was so terrible, but not enough to close the deal.

If he gets as close as Kamala he’ll win the most seats. With NDP collapsing the liberals could win while trailing in vote h up to 4 points. Not that the US example is remotely relevant l. His bump is mostly becauseleollesrescsrsdsnd voting on whole needed of issues revolving around dealing with Trump.

We're in an election year and probably two months away from one. What should the opposition run on? "Avoiding negativity" is to give the LPC a free pass. The incumbents have a poor track record that's been forgotten for now because of an external threat, but the problems haven't disappeared. If anything, the associated risks are greater than ever. It seems dubious that Poilievre would be any less likely to "stand up for Canada". Everything he's said on this matter is basically in lockstep with the LPC government. Most likely he will try to work out a deal and if not, we'll find ourselves in a trade war.
