sorry haha I'll go back and update it to 4th.

Still, good to see the man who is likely to become our next Prime Minister speak to the importance of ports.

Mainstreet Research poll shows the federal Liberals leading the CPC in Ontario

Will the Trump tariffs and threats remain top election issues during this reprieve?

I'd still like to see some polling specifically regarding Trump and who Canadians think is better suited to deal with this unique economic crisis afflicting US-Canada relations.

Upon that foul orange wind blowing into Canada from the South, Canadian sovereignty has suddenly become the top issue for voters. People can hate the Liberals and Trudeau all they want, but one thing is that they are not lickspittals and apologists for Trump.

Port Saint John's will likely pass Sept-Iles in the future if that plan were to materialize, but as I said, Montreal is also expanding their port and adding 1.15M containers to their capacity. And just like in Saint John, it was not possible to expand onto adjacent sites. Doesn't mean they can't do it outside the lands traditionally occupied by the port though.

The main hatred was for JT and his performative virtue signaling nonsense. This was followed closely by disdain and contempt for their horrible economic and taxation policies. Immigration was another nail in the coffin.

The worm has turned however.

- JT is on the way out.
- the carbon tax will soon be gone, and it appears the recent capital gains changes will now be history as well.
- the immigration pipeline has been turned off
- a Mad King has arisen in the south threatening the very existence of Canada itself.

Most of the irritants are gone. The critical issue is the Orange Buffoon. Which party will be the best in combating this existential threat?

PP may be seen as too closely aligned with the Orange Buffoon. This could prove toxic. So far the Liberal efforts seem to be working.

I think the upcoming federal election is now up for grabs. I don't think PP should be that keen on forcing an immediate election. It might be better to let things play out and see..........

Terrible news for the NDP if that Mainstreet poll is correct. They haven't done that poorly in a federal election in Ontario since 2000.

I find those NDP numbers hard to believe too. Singh is a grossly incompetent politician, but 9% would literally mean the NDP losing their traditional floor of support. Except amongst the champagne socialist Annex-Beaches crowd, I found it hard to believe that the traditional NDP base will rally around Carney.

Maybe or a unnamed leader we can add our own imagination to might be preferred. NDP voters may not be happy the Liberals are now lead by a banker and those of us who are in the centre might start to realize a lot of rhetoric from Carney is in line with Trudeau. He claimed that a carbon tax on producers wouldn't impact consumers since we don't buy those things anyway. "When's the last time you bought steel". That's a pretty shocking statement for an economist to make. When you are lying you can get caught out. The Conservative hocus pocus climate change plans were along the same times. But it looks like PP this time will have the advantage of being very vague along the lines of we will support tech. The electorate clearly has other priorities right now.

Except to form a common front to thwart PP and his presumed affinity for the Mad King.

I find it hard to believe the traditional working class base (the types that would rally behind Rachel Notley) would view PP as the mad king. This would be the viewpoint of champagne socialists ensconced and protected from the real world within their lofty Annex-Beaches domain.

If they had to pick their poison, Singh is still more palatable than a former central banker.

Yep it’s possible that people are projecting their view on the future liberal leader right now. As such, if PP still thinks it’s a good idea to call an election then loses it, he deserves the loss.

Does anyone know if any of the parties are considering changes to the Criminal Code? That is my personal top issue. I know Harper brought in minimum sentences (later taken away). Have the Cons discussed anything concrete?

Trump (and his commerce secretary) have a clear goal. They want auto factories to relocate to the US. Right now the Liberals and the NDP are the ones saying: "No", without hesitation.

PP is the one struggling. He eventually comes around to it, but its hard for him. He always has to add some caveat at the end about how its the government of Canada's fault and not the US.

I watched his video. Its weird.

He complains about the largest drug bust in Canadian history. Having the police bust a drug rings is a good thing.

He also quoting numbers that don't make any sense. Bust a lab that has enough drugs to kill millions of people. That is out of proportion to the real impact.

We have a problem with drugs. I don't know the solution. I don't think he does either.

Would be funny that come the end of March the only party that may want an election are the Liberals... what a turn of events!

If Ford secures his bigger majority, that also does not bode well for PP as Ontario typically prefers to have opposite party in Ottawa.

Funny then that the NDP is being punished in this Mainstreet poll for saying No. From a political strategy point of view, Singh's miscalculations all started from the Supply and Confidence agreement, getting in bed with the Liberals. But I find it hard to believe the voters are going to punish his party with a measly 9% support in Ontario.

Did minimum sentences get taken away? A lot of this stuff faces Charter challenges in the courts. I'm pretty sure that is where minimum sentencing gets overturned.

Most of the minimum/mandatory sentences were overturned by courts and legislation.

PP has said he would have mandatory life sentences for Fentanyl "dealers". This has the potential to fill our jails with patsies who might be on the edge of homelessness. You can also expect a lot more violence when police try to arrest them. This will mean police have to be more careful. Anyone pulled over could potentially start shooting if they have 40 mg of Fentantyl in their car. It's really a bad road to go down. Better would be to replace all the bleeding heart judges with ones that want to enforce the law rather than imposing sentences without looking at the context.

If you don't care about all that and want us to be tougher on criminals the Conservatives are your choice for sure. It might be expensive but a lot of those locked up were going to at best commit a lot of petty crime so it can improve the quality of life.

It's not PP that's the Mad King. It's the fear he might be the Mad King's stooge.

This will be PP's Achille's Heel, and there's not too much he can do about it other than going out of his way to denounce the insane baboon, but, this might not play well with certain parts of his base that might flee towards the People's Party.

He's truly stuck between a rock and a hard place. Does he want to seem reasonable and centrist, or, does he want to appeal to the fundamentalist freedumb wing of the party.

I know what I would prefer him to do, but, does he have the balls to jettison the freedumb types........
