IIRC, it was apple juice.
The term is "fresh squeezed", by the way. It's a bit misleading in that all it means is that the fruit was fresh when it was squeezed and bottled (rather than made from concentrate, etc.). The bottle may have been sitting on a shelf for months afterward. Almost nothing marketed to you as "fresh squeezed" is made from freshly squeezed juice.
Not an excuse, just a fun fact.
That said, the Canadian impulse to quibble over a few dollars in our politicians' expenses is one of the many reasons our best leaders steer clear of politics.
