Yes, I think it’s quite an interesting take to claim Carney wouldn’t have dealt with businessmen and Wall Street bankers and other scumbags from New York, in his career as an economist and financial expert, or as the Governor of two ratings agencies that set prime interest rates for every bank and lending institution in their country.

I think someone needs to rewatch The Big Short to remind themselves what types of people Mark Carney dealt with as a central banker… people with egos rivalling that of Trump.

I’m sure Mark Carney has interacted with way more with people like Donald Trump and the Jordan Belforts and other scummy bankers of the world… The closest thing to Trump in Canadian politics and business would be PP himself and Kevin O’Leary.

Thank God we don’t have a system where we run a ticket for PM and Vice PM like the US does every four years. That would be a Doomsday Ticket 💀

But it should be a quick popular win. We'll be stronger in the end. I wonder how much pressure the Feds can apply on this.

Carney has the PP/CPC supporters running scared and he's hardly started a leadership campaign. I can smell the fear.

Am I the only one that doesn't understand what this means? You've used it numerous times. If it is a thing, I'm pretty sure this isn't something you would want in a guy running your country.

perhaps he meant to say "unimpeachable"? As in: "when it comes to economics, the guy really knows his stuff?"

unimpeachable, sorry. I just mean like, Carney is going to be so much less likely to fall for any of Trump's fascist tendencies and cheap bravado than PP would, especially since PP is already quite right wing. Carney is a liberal through and through, a strong believer in democracy, and won't be wowed by any of Trump's nonsense. I just think Trump will make quick work of PP and Canada won't get a good deal.

I agree that Carney is a housing crisis pro, but I don’t think we’re on the same side of this argument at all

Latest Polls:

25-Jan Leger LPC 25% CPC 43%
24-Jan Nanos LPC 25% CPC 42%
24-Jan Abacus LPC 22% CPC 43%

Carney has definitely established a trend ... though both Leger and Nanos are known shills for the CPC

Numbers broken down in terms of provinces will be better.
If LPC consistently leads in Ontario, PP will need to toss his apple away and get working.

I think you're joking, hence the emoji.

If Léger is associated with any party, it's the Parti Québécois. And even so, it's only nominally and for historic reasons.

Yes Conservative at even low 20s in Quebec gets them very few seats but being tied vs a 10 point lead in Ontario makes a huge difference.

They'll have to fight a wall of provincial bureaucrats, unions and special interest groups who have profited mightily from these inter provincial barriers, and they'll defend the status quo to their death.

Lake Meech is still the poster child for being done in by petty provincial politics.

Makes me wonder whether it was Carney advising Freeland to implement those asinine and shortsighted mortgage reforms, double down on the government's CMBS purchases (thus crowding out the MBS market) and increasing the CMHC insurable limit to $1.5M to keep the housing bubble going. Given that Freeland openly mused that she had a direct line to Carney during her Finance Ministry stint.

What is Carney's view of Freeland and Trudeau's mortgage reforms and the consequences of dramatically increasing moral hazard?

Leger has the CPC at 47% and the LPC at 27% in Ontario

That's basically 2011 where they almost didn't need any seats east of Ontario. 180 or 210 seats is really very little difference to what the next 4 years look like though it does let PP push regionally unpopular things through anyway. Maybe eliminating regional develop agencies for example.
