Now you know why I’ve been pleading with progressives to rein this in themselves and bring back some rationality in order to avoid this type of ugly backlash and giving control to the haters.

But instead they chose to double down and accused sensible people like me of secretly “caucusing” with the haters.

In fact, they mostly continue to double down today.

Similar to saying certain words (referentially, of course). A couple years ago we had people going apeshit over that and then I easily found old posts of theirs from just a few years back where they used the word in full. Referentially of course, not as an insult. Guess they forget to go back and check and delete before going apeshit.
Do you get the difference between punching up vs punching down?

What about if people aren’t punching at all?

That is one of the problems. People see “punching” everywhere, even when there is no real evidence of it.

Let’s be honest. Right now there is a simmering anti-immigrant white supremacist racist undercurrent in Canada.

But it has no mainstream political traction.

The CPC or some elements within it might have capitalized on that but they won’t because they don’t have to in order to take power.

My fear is that once the reality of facing electoral collapse and humiliation hits the LPC that they might decide to fan those flames as a last-ditch attempt to save themselves and make the other guys look bad. It won’t likely work but could definitely poison some of our social climate.

We have seen it before when Justin Trudeau has called his opponents white supremacists and misogynists on completely unrelated issues.

I think there's absolutely nothing wrong with freshly new immigrants to Canada voting in party selection processes. Most of these people want to become Canadian citizens, and there's nothing wrong with them impacting the selection process for party leader. This is a good thing, and good that recent immigrants are being exposed to Canadian politics and democracy before they have a chance to vote in their first election as a Canadian citizen.

Many people are coming from countries where they yearn for functioning, stable democracies, and they probably consider democracy a lot more sacred as newcomers to Canada than many of us take for granted as people lucky enough to be born and raised in Canada.

Even the so called "permanent", permanent residents aren't enough of a cohort to seriously undermine the results of a federal leadership race, so there's really nothing to be outraged about. There's absolutely nothing wrong with newcomers to Canada who are not yet citizens taking part in a party's leadership race, as these leadership races absolutely impact the future politics in Canada often well beyond an upcoming election.

Liberal MPs increasingly get behind Mark Carney | Now the clear front runner?

Video Link

More and more endorsements are rolling in for Mark Carney.

I wonder if he will get the coveted endorsement of highly popular Liberal premier of New Brunswick, Susan Holt?

Holt spent the majority of her highly successful campaign distancing herself from the Trudeau federal Liberals, so she's definitely not going to be endorsing Freeland. However, I could absolutely see her coming out in support of Mark Carney for the federal leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada. Mark Carney in turn, may want to take cues from the successful Holt campaign.

Today is the last day to register as a Liberal and place a vote for who will become Canada's next Prime Minister 🇨🇦

It's a race that's increasingly looking like Carney's going to win.

The latest polling out of Ontario could be further evidence of a “Carney Bump”.

Registering and voting for Arya to ensure Carney doesn't become the new PM is well within our rights and I would encourage you to do the same since you have similar concerns about the man as I do.

What would be fucked up is if the LPC decides to close the voting to insiders only. Right now they have a democracy at least (although I wish they would require IDs).

I personally will be voting for Arya as well since I like him better than the other candidates.
You wanted to vote for Arya whom is by far the weakest candidate, so the Liberals would do even worst against the Conservatives, which you want elected.

Your denigrating campaign against Carney lets us know that you are scared of him, that he might hurt the Conservatives' chance at a majority.

Still, it is unlikely that the Liberals can reverse the situation and beat the Conservatives, but it is obvious that people don't really like Poilievre (I wonder why...), but they disliked the Liberals even more. Maybe it is not the Liberals in general that were disliked, maybe it was just Trudeau. If he had stayed, the Conservative were cruising toward an easy and strong majority. With Carney, it is still likely, but not impossible.

I can see why you are so scared.

It's obvious that PP is concerned about Carney, but he doesn't seem to have figured out how to mount an effective attack. The initial reference to the "Trudeau/Freeland/Carney" government fell flat and the "no Trudeau cabinet ministers" thing was fended off well be Carney. At some point, he's going to come up with something that could stick, but it's taking him a while.

He might not find a one sentence devastating talking point but an absolute barrage of ads showing Carney next to all the Trudeau ministers seems like it will turn off a lot of the Carney curious crowd. Personally I am leaning that way after being pretty bullish on him. As someone said earlier if he runs on the only thing that needs to change is spending he may get a big surprise. It's also likely he tries to use climate change and identity politics to keep NDP voters onside. He thinks like a central banker: Fix the balance sheet and keep all the left wing nonsense that isn't directly hurting the economy.

I'm not sure Canadians will respond well to the all-out negative attack politics. The alliterative nicknames are surely off-putting to the class of voters who could go either way (Red Tories). The gun toting base may enjoy it, but I don't think people want to see the next prime minister or his party acting like this, especially when there is already broad scepticism about them.

It strikes me as impolite. "Newcomers" seems to be the current polite term.

Negative attack ads continue to be used because they continue to work.

Carney does not believe in free market capitalism.

I learned my lesson after 10 years of Trudeau (who i voted for btw). It is unfortunate that the same cannot be said for others.

It’s a poll from Mainstreet Research

338 is fall from infallible. 338 was pretty slow catching onto the polling trends in the NB election until much later. Mainstreet was dead on about the red wave in NB weeks before 338 even started showing the election leaning towards Holt’s Liberals.

I think this is showing signs of a new trend, and evidence of the “Carney Bump” 📈

You don't call Argentina a "shithole", please.
They won the latest World Cup, lol.
Their state deficit is actually doing better, now that they have a Libertarian freak as a head of state to correct it.
It might be good for them for some time.

In any case, don't say that a country is a shithole. You're entitled to say they're impoverished or punching below their weight, but you don't insult them.

Carney does not believe in free market capitalism.
This is a ridiculous statement. The only area he really differs substantially from Poilievre is energy. He thinks it's inherently something bad that we are dependent on. A necessary evil. He does understand it is necessary unlike some. The rest of the economy is not likely to be very different under PP or Carney. A few more tax cuts under PP and a few less civil servants and benefits for the poor. But really marginal differences for the most part.
