YHZ dropped to -0.02 at 6 am this morning ending our run for the last freeeze early this year. Bedford Basin dropped to 3.1 and the downtown Halifax dockyard dropped to 4.1. Booooo! lol. Going forward we will have lots of sunshine in the coming week or so with low temps hitting the double digits later in the week and highs getting up in the high teens to low 20's depending on which forecast you choose to look at. We've had days of turbulent weather with high winds and a long-lasting thunder and lightning storm so I'm looking forward to calm.

The first freeze of the year is always difficult to accept, mainly because of the capriciousness of it all. The upcoming seven day forecast for Moncton shows an impressive warming trend (up to 21C on Saturday) with no additional risks of freezing on the horizon. If Moncton had escaped last night, we might have been good until November 1st..........

Currently clear and 6C in Moncton at 11 AM, going up to 12C this afternoon.

Had to wear a toque and gloves on my bikeride this morning, not stoked for the cold but can't wait till the ski hills open!! Usually I can start riding mid - late November, whenever Ullr delivers the goods.

Some rain shower over night but not anything worth reporting.

Was pleasant last night for a few hours so got out for another ride. Still lots of birds around. Large flocks of Trumpeter Swans coming through now.

Only 2 trees have lost leaves in my yard. Most plants are still blooming, even the roses and Begonias.Forcast keeps changing for the warmer. But next week we are supposed to be going to a low of -6 but still single digit warmer during the day. Snow that was forcast did not materialise. yesterday was 13 today will be 10 but Sat is forecast to be 19.

giallo, I don't see the Olympic Rings on the Eiffel Tower, have they been removed. (Nice framing on that shot)

Just a guess, but given the lights on the other side of the tower at the level where the rings were, I think they are on the other side from where the picture is taken?

You might be right, I see people standing in what looks like a plaza on the other side. Not that I have any say, but they should keep the Rings on, the Paris Olympics where a big success.

The original rings were taken down because they are too heavy to remain long term but the IOC is looking at a lighter replacement.

Definitely think they should keep the rings, throwback to the legacy of the games (which may have saved the Olympics, thought they were great!). Calgary has a couple legacy things from the Olympics (though not many now), I'm sure Vancouver and Montreal do too.

13C and sunny. Not a bad afternoon.












Low of 1C. Conditions were perfect for cold but it's too early for a freeze. The St Lawrence is still too warm. Almost all trees are still fully leafed which has an effect on the dewpoint (however small that is).

The warmspot was Deerwood, MB at 22.0C

Warmest low was Western Island, ON at 10.6C

Kamloops circling the drain. It got as low as +0.1C this morning, and, it is still only 5 AM out there.

4C and sunny in Moncton at 9 AM, getting up to 13C this afternoon. A glorious week ahead, and, since we've had our first frost, I presume this is Indian Summer. Full on sunshine for the week with a warming trend, and by Monday the high temperature will be 20C.

Re: YHZ vs the Halifax dockyard, I do wonder at times why we use YHZ as the standard for Halifax, as it’s actually 20 or 30 minutes away from what most would consider “Halifax”… i.e. downtown, near the harbour. YHZ is still in somewhat of a rural area and its inland location not really representative of the city, and the influence that the harbour/ocean has on the urban areas of Halifax. Just a thought.

we are going to get a 25C drop in Temp on Sunday. Possible snow or snow flurries on Sunday and Monday. but temps are on the up swing later in the week. Hopefully the snow holds off when I go to Jasper in 10 days. But that weather coming over the mountains looks nasty.
