Is that a piece of track with fasteners sitting on the concrete pad on the right side of your photo?

This could be for testing/training/trialing rail installation on both flat and superelevated sections.

And the section on the left is sloped which seems weird. It seems like those sections have been placed there since Spring.

Back in July it seems like they were setting up some kind of of scaffolding for a concrete form hanging off the side of the guideway above where these "foundations" are placed. There's also a gap in those supports above that section.

And back in April it seems like the supports were setup but removed later to do the additional concrete work.

I don't think that is related, the section the protrudes out should be for a switch machine like here:

That looks like the most reasonable answer to me, great find!

Reminds me of the smaller one they have at Commercial-Broadway on platforms 3/4 on the east end.

Was thinking the same thing that this would be for future switch equipment. Looking at it from above it lines up right.

Crews are building the train platform at the future South Granville Station.

This is where passengers will wait for their next SkyTrain. The tracks will be built along each side, with the platform in the middle.

Budget wise, where is this project in terms of how much money has been spent on it. 40%? 70%?

From the July status report $1.57B has been spent of the $2.827B budget which is 55%.

Thanks! I didn't know these reports existed. It seems like this will be on budget. I don't know how they can burn through a full $1.3B when the tunnels are already bored and the stations are already excavated.

The original Expo Line from Downtown to New West is a good proxy for what the SLS extension will look like. Unless Vancouver decides to massively upzone the 41/49th corridor from Oakridge to Metrotown in exchange for funding that line, I say the SLS is a good use of funds.

Langley skytrain is starting procurement/construction in 2024. This started that process in 2019. Almost like something happened in the last 5 years that made things much more expensive...

Perhaps if Dianne Watts didn't try to push the envelope on the idiotic LRT plans, the Langley extension could have nominally costed something similar to this if it were built a decade ago. But should've, could've, would've.

The SLS is also 2x the price for 3x the distance (elevated vs tunneled however), nearly 2x the stations, and 3x the bus exchanges. Maybe the ridership projections aren't as justifiable, but it's fairly reasonable for it to be 2x the price I'd say.

They have to build an OMC for it too, or is that a separate budget? Does the Broadway Tunnel budget include an OMC?

OMC is a separate scope for both. OMC4 could be considered the OMC for Broadway, kind of.
