found the culprit

Do not utter my name ever, let alone four times in a post. I will NEVER come to Oklahoma, and you cant make me.

Whatever dude! If OKC can have a 134 story 1,907 foot building then why the hell cant Wichita have an icon around 550 feet tall? It 8s 2024 it is about time Wichita does something and I am dead serious.

Oklahoma City tower seeks to take title of tallest building in US from World Trade Ce

A proposal in Oklahoma is in motion to build the tallest skyscraper in the U.S., which could potentially take the title away from the World Trade Center in NYC. This Oklahoma tower could reach 1907 feet tall.

Not sure why this proposal is buried but check out the latest interview, skip to 12:32.

Might want to move this back to proposals.

Since observation decks haven't been brought up in this observation deck thread yet, is there any speculation here as to whether this observation deck will have an observation deck anywhere in the vicinity of its observation deck's observation deck?

I don't disagree that this thread was probably moved a little prematurely, but as for me personally, that Zoom interview with the local PBS affiliate by the developer did not really do anything to instill more confidence that this is a serious proposal, or that this Scot Matteson guy is anything more than a grifter looking for attention. For example, there is little to no evidence, so far as I can tell, that he was actually involved in any of those projects he name drops in any significant way. The last big proposal he made has yet to have even an ounce of dirt moved ten years later. None of his supposed companies have a website or any digital footprint to speak of. It just doesn't add up to me. But again... hopefully this time next year I'll be eating crow on this.

There's absolutely zero demand for such a product in Wichita. Fidelity Bank couldn't even get it's 10-story building out of the ground, and that was announced pre-pandemic.

That's not to say there's nothing happening in the city or South Central Kansas as a whole - actually the amount of activity happening downtown is fairly positive.

I probably should start a thread in the Midwest section about it since there's been a decent amount of renovation happening with older/existing building stock. The newer construction is smaller, but complementary to what's already there.

there isn't one yet for Legends Tower, hence it's a proposal. I also don't think they have building permits for the rest of the development (3 345' highrises).

to my knowledge, they're working iwth the city to get an variance on the supertall (Legends Tower); I assume therefore, it this might become an all-or-nothing mega proposal, as opposed to it originally being Phase I - approved and Phase II Supertall to come later.

The site has already been approved for 345' for al 4 towers if I recall correctly and a $200M TIF to be rebated by the city once at least 900 units are built, it's just now they want 1907' for one supertall tower and that hasn't been approved yet. Construction might very well be phased the original way, but approvals might become all or nothing (if the city doesn't approve 1907' for Legends Tower, then I suspect the developer will walk on the whole thing).

The developer has considered the option of scaling down the height based on market demand and if that is the case, a 1,000 foot tall skyscraper might be built.
