A super light dusting at my place this morning - much lighter than mega dude. I didn’t have to clear my car as none stuck to it.

Once I got downtown Hamilton for work there was basically none there.

I’ve also seen cars on the road with a fairly heavy amount - northern GTA has been getting some good snowfall.

Shows how big a difference different parts of the GTA experience in terms of snowfall. I don’t even bother buying salt as the ice rarely sticks around and I feel like I need to shovel my driveway a handful of times a year, meanwhile my in laws in North Durham are shovelling all the time from late October to the middle of April.

My office overlooks the Gardiner. You see cars coming into Downtown with various levels of snow. Especially noticeable with the pickups.

I love visiting all corners of the GTA. Not so much Toronto itself but the rest as I am a suburban kind of guy, just not mind numbing surburban. Same with Hamilton. I am more interested in places like Flamboro, Dundas and Ancaster than the city itself. However, now that I am used to less snow being in Burlington and Oakville the past decade, it would be very hard for me to move back to Brampton or be in my favourite rural suburb of Caledon. And I don't like Toronto in general when it comes to living so that's out of the question.

So even if some distant relative I didn't know about suddenly bequeathed to me a 3,000 sf mcmansion in Unionville, Markham or in Kleinburg, Vaughan or in "Magnaville", Aurora, I would live there for maybe one year and then sell it for a smaller house further south. And for Hamilton, there are some nice spots "up on the mountain" but I'd rather not have that snow so it would be a dilemma.

Just today I was going down that google streetview rabbit hole. I saw the buyer's address for a retail plaza transaction and I realized it was close to one of the favourite rural GTA spots up by Silver Creek in Halton Hills. I did some exploring again reminiscing about the last time I drove those twisty, up and down, narrow dirt roads five years ago. That buyer has a mansion. Gorgeous house but knowing how far it is to town and knowing it gets noticeably more snow than down south I ask the question, is it worth the extra square footage/land knowing you get that much more snow? Some people choose a 3,500 sf mcmansion close to the lake in Oakville or Burlington or in the city in Forest Hill or near Bridlepath and some people choose 7,000 sf on acreage in rural Milton, Caledon, King City, etc. I like the pros of both and wish I was so super rich I could have both and alternate. And of course, for a lot of these people who own these houses, they might be used to the area and want to be there or they don't even think about it. They just live where they live. Ignorance is bliss. In a good way in this regard.

I really don't like how dead it feels rurally for a good five months of the year though. My wife just went up to the cottage today with her mom and this is what it looks like from the porch. I've never been in the winter. It looks like another planet. The warmth and atmosphere created by the foliage is gone.
