I will admit, Wednesday morning here was pretty with the fresh snow. Especially since it had nice clean lines. Just on rooves, cars and grass. Then nothing on the sidewalk and roads. The convenient kind of snow. Of course, not good for winter sports and activities with it being moist and all.

But much of it for me is psychological. I know it's prettier but it's also associated with being freezing. And having to brush off the car. And shoveling. And narrowing your street and all the other inconveniences. Also don't like the sound of walking on it when on a hard surface. But actually like the sound and feel when walking on it when it's on the lawn for some reason. Tancredi would like walking on the crunchy sounding snow since he's into ASMR.

Definitely lots of people love silence in nature. For me, it's too eerie. Of course, I'm not used to it though. I prefer some ambient sound. I don't like all the power tools going and boats out on the lake going out fer a rip and dude bros blasting music but I like some background noise.

A few years ago we did Christmas in the Kawarthas on Buckhorn lake. Super quiet. BIL's FIL is from Mississauga and he spent hours just sitting at the fire, listening to nothing but that crackling of the wood bark popping. And he ran a bar for a living and helped run the German social club at the Hansa Haus in Mississauga. That's some serious ASMR. As pleasant as that is, I still would like some background noise. Even if snowmobiles zipping across the lake, just as long as it's well in the distance. Like how for so many years I could only sleep with the ceiling fan on. But I don't need that anymore.

Here's the snow at the cottage. And then the beach 150m away is just sand. Goes to show how forests insulate. Keep the snow that has fallen cold or keep the warmth from the sun in the summer time lingering.

In that fire is two pieces of cedar(?) that we picked up from around the corner at home a couple of weeks ago. Every time we pass by someone that has put out freshly chopped wood on the curb we are very tempted to pick up the juicy pieces and throw in a fire. I thought we were going to keep it tucked away under the deck until May but wife went with her mom this weekend so they were put to good use now.

And damn, my MIL must be the mushroom whisperer. I had no idea mushrooms would be growing this time of the year. I'm wondering if she gets them under pine trees where the ground was protected from snow. My wife has to make at least one recipe a week that involves mushrooms since we have tonnes of it in dehydrated form. You should see how much is at my MIL's house. It's basically the fungi equivalent of Bubba and his shrimp.

-4C with a wind chill of -10. Still cold, still crappy.

Low of -8C (wind chill of -13) last night.

The warmspot was Welland-Pelham, ON at 12.6C. We are literally 20 degrees colder than Southern Ontario at the moment. Madness.

Warmest low was Cape St James, BC at 5.3C

A Canadian winter might not be as romantic as you believe.

You should spend a couple of weeks in January in the Italian Alps before you begin your immigration process.
True, I've never shoveled snow, I've never experienced temperatures this cold (except in a walk-in cooler), I've never seen freezing rain. But I'm sure I could get used to it very quickly.

The Alps are the mountain ranges of Italy best known abroad but in reality in my country there are also other mountains that have recorded enormous quantities of snow and very cold temperatures, they are the Apennines (even closer to Sicily) but less famous of the Alps

Living in Vancouver we only get to experience it once in awhile, and it's different depending on the temperature.

I am aware of snow in the Apennines too. In fact, I watched a train video just the other month incidentally showing an Apennine snowfall as the train passed through the region.

In ancient Roman times, the patrician class used to enjoy iced beverages, even well into the hot months of the summer, and ice cutters from the Apennine region made a good living supplying the imperial capital. They used to store ice in basements in their villas, insulated by a covering of hay.

-5C and sunny in Moncton at 11 AM, going up to +1C this afternoon.

+8C tomorrow, and +13C on Monday. We have a similar weather statement for Monday in Moncton as in Halifax - high winds and heavy rain.

I've never been a fan of snow despite how pretty it might look when fresh. Snow means cold and it has always meant extra work. I'm looking forward to our imminent switch from below normal to above normal followed by more normal temps leading up to xmas. Our high at EC's Bedford Basin station yesterday was 3.1 and the low was -3.8 at 8 am this morning. YHZ was 0.2 / -6.8. The normal for YHZ is 3 / -6. We have managed to melt off a bit of snow this past week...

It's perfect for falling asleep quickly. You are lucky... here in Palermo we can experience it 1 time every 20 thousand years, that is when the new ice age arrives

Well done, you are very knowledgeable about Italy!! The ancient Romans knew how to enjoy life. In the Apennines there are areas where enormous quantities of snow fall. In general the Alps are very snowy especially in autumn and spring while the Apennines are very snowy in winter. Watch this video; it is the small town of Capracotta and is located in the southern Apennines, in Molise (we are at 1420 meters above sea level). Capracotta is famous because every winter several meters of snow fall --

It's 11 and partly sunny this morning. Could hit 15 later on with rain overnight.

The low was 8.7 and yesterday was cloudy with a high of 11.3.

It wasn't specific to Montreal only but I remember seeing a map that showed that Eastern North America was one of the least rapidly warming region in the world. I think another region was western South America. If I find it again, I will post.

I don't have a nice terrace (that would be Arrdee). All I have are some trees...

Temperature is +4°C currently, and it still feels cool and damp outside with all the remaining snow - I probably have roughly 15 cm on the ground at the moment, even though some has melted away.

Here are a few of my neighbours that I encountered today. They don't seem to mind the snow so much:

The contrast between the modern skyscraper and the Gothic style church (at least that's how it seems but maybe it's another style) is truly impressive. Vancouver is a fantastic city
