I am a Calgarian, and a season ticket holder for football and hockey. I think the CalgaryNEXT proposal is a underwhelming and a bad deal for the City.
I have no problem with the city contributing $200 million towards the project, in return for a field house that is shared.
However the money from the CRL should also be considered a City and Province contribution, since they have to give up that tax revenue.
If you cleanup west village and build a stadium and arena, yes that will revitalize the area, but the cleanup is the reason not the arena. And the new condos are just being diverted from the many other potential communities (East Village, Eau Claire, Beltline, Bridgeland).
The flames want a new area, for the sole purpose of creating more luxury first level seating and luxury boxes. The current saddledome is a more than adequate.
