I walked by the Ellsworth sales office yesterday and saw the model of the building. Dear god, what a travesty.

Thanks for the update. Is that the building on the NW or the NE side of 6th & Ontario? Do you know if one of them is complete yet, or if this is the first one to be under construction?

It's the northwest side. The matching building on the east side is complete. I believe it is occupied by the clothing design studio for Oak + Fort

Cool, thanks. Yeah Google Maps shows Oak+Fort on that site. Wasn't sure if the info was up to date.

Here's a look around Containers on Terminal Phase II. I've included the Phase I building (blue front, copper back) in the first and last pictures for context. It was interesting walking around that area with the nicely appointed plaza area and the bike path in the back.

It looks like the upper north facing floors of Duke and Vya on Kingsway are going to have commanding views of the downtown and north shore. At least until Kingsgate Mall gets redeveloped and some towers go in there.

500 Dunsmuir Street

Anyone have an idea of what is being done to the Dunsmuir International Village Student Housing at 500 Dunsmuir? it's all boarded up.

He will have to decide how to proceed with 500 Dunsmuir, a large plot that houses a heritage-designated and social-housing-encumbered building. The Dunsmuir Hotel has been vacant since 2013 when impoverished residents were moved to other sites. The developer would have to obtain a permit from the city to demolish or repurpose the building for market housing.

“We are exploring all options with regards to what is the best use of 500 Dunsmuir building,” Joo Kim said.

Two sites chosen for Vancouver's shipping container homes for low-income residents
By Kenneth Chan
5:24 PM PDT, Thu May 12, 2016
...

One site at 1500 Main Street near Terminal Avenue, currently a community food garden, will consist of 40 to 80 units complete with bathrooms, shared kitchen facilities, and amenity spaces.

The other site will be built on the roof of a multi-storey parkade facing the alleyway on 1060 Howe Street, a below-market housing complex that was formerly the Bosman Hotel. There will also be bathrooms and shared kitchen facilities for the approximate 40 units that will be built.

They can't seem to stop adding subsidised housing at the south side of downtown around the Granville/Davie neighbourhood. Does the city really want to turn it into another East Hastings? This area is getting worse as it is, with more homeless people sleeping on the streets (maybe hoping to be "picked up" as a social housing candidate?).

At the Main Street station neighbourhood at OV, that site is ideal for a commercial/office complex, and yet they are putting in those containers.

So much for Vancouver's "planning".

Commercial/Office is going in south of West/East 2nd Ave between Main and Cambie. And Containers 2 on Terminal will open soon enough (already fully leased).

The container housing is also supposed to be temporary - but that may still mean social housing on the site of the container housing.

Columbia College student to the taxi driver - take me to the "Containers" ...

My guess is Holborn will turn that into affordable housing or gift it to the city as part of their overall rezoning application so that the city will refurb it into affordable housing units as part of the CAC package.

That's good to know. We need more mixed use around Main Street Station to clean up that area, and not just pandering to social services.

Funny that the office building next to Columbia college is also named The Containers. Taxi driver would be confused.

I was walking past the South Creek Landing condo building on Cambie yesterday and i noticed the blue and white accent lighting feature was flickering in a very random uncontrollable manner. It's not supposed to do that right? I think the system is shorting out. It looked like the building was in the movie Poltergeist!
