Hopefully they are going to work with the city on the transit exchange point. It's the major transfer spot in the South.

Yeah that block contains 2 of the 3 major east-west intersections in the South End, 25th Ave and Parliament Ave (the other being Gordon Rd). So they'd better handle the traffic flow correctly. I would imagine they would bar left turns out of the mall on 25th as well as Albert due to the likely increase in vehicle traffic this will bring. Or possible new traffic signals half-way down the block between 25th and Parliament? The other possibility is that they completely redo the entrances along the west side of the block (Rae St), but that would also likely mean lights at Rae and 25th (especially considering that it is a major bus transfer point).

It's hard to say how much it will affect volume on that block considering there are already 3 other grocery stores on South Albert (Coop, Sobeys, Safeway).

The lights at Rae and 25th are probably needed already without this happening anyway. There's a possibility of doing something pretty interesting with Rae and 25th and the mall itself. I'm doubtful the city thinks this out though and can see them trying to shoehorn in a solution after they realize its a problem. There's already a large amount of traffic coming out, but Superstore will be a bigger draw than Extra foods.

The Superstores in Regina are exactly identical; each are 150,000 sq feet. They opened on the same day during November of 2000. ( . . . as did the adjacent Wal-Marts.)

The old Superstore downtown was 133,000 sq feet.

At 92,000 sq feet, the new Golden Mile Superstore would be akin to the Superstore in Westbank, BC. (A little smaller; however, 'will still have pretty well everything.)

It doesn't look like the mall's footprint will change that much, so perhaps parking won't be an issue.

I also notice a GoodLife Fitness in the renderings. There's a generic "drugstore" shown as well -- the mall currently has a Rexall, so I wonder if it would just relocate.

They say 20,000 more square feet. So 10% more. They will also lose some parking but will gain the unrentable common area of the mall.

PC Urban says 142,000.

There's a lot of space in the mall. I really don't think they'd need to lose much parking to get that square footage in. Any one have a leaked site plan we could overlay with the existing structure to know?

^Nice. Thanks. Looking at Google maps. I'm seeing maybe the loss of twelve parking spots directly in front of the entrance, but then an increase of a half row of parking along the South outdoor entrance shops which aren't there right now. All in all, pretty good, although if GoodLife fitness is busy parking is going to be at a premium. It's busy now and Superstore will be a bigger draw in a larger format than Extra Foods is.

The picture is missing the logistics of loading for the store which surely wouldn't remain where it is right now. That would make loading difficult for any of the other merchants. A few logistics to figure out there.

Dude, the [new] east and [new] north Wal-marts and [new] Superstores all opened on exactly the same day. (In November of 2000; I thought that was rather bizarre.) Wal-mart advertised their grand openings, whereas Superstore did nothing; of course, that's the way they were. (Cheap. Lol.)

I was informed, waaaay back then, that the Superstores were 150,000 sq ft; I'm glad that I stand corrected.

Regina's Construction Sector Remains Strong

Details
Published: 06 March 2015

Construction crews remained busy last month, as $55.5 million in building permits were issued for projects in Regina.

“Permits issued in February will result in nearly 2.5 times more new residential units than the previous year,” said Mayor Michael Fougere. “This is proof that the market is responding to the housing needs of our city. We’re also seeing strong momentum and solid growth in the industry as a whole, with the overall number of new units and the number of permits issued so far this year outpacing 2014.”

Permits worth more than $1 million on the latest report include two planned group of dwellings, one in Greens on Gardiner worth $15.5 million and the other in Harbour Landing worth $1.1 million, new office buildings in Harbour Landing Business Park valued at $6 million, a $5.3 million alteration to the Wastewater Treatment Plant, new construction on the Stadium Project valued at $4.2 million, a $2.3 million office alteration in the Downtown, alterations on the STC garage valued at $2.2 million, a $1.4 million construction for a new restaurant in Albert Park, as well as a $1 million fitness club in Gardiner Park.
