Promises of tax cuts when we're already in deficit and need more revenue, not less is, I suppose, politics as usual. I feel naive for hoping for better this time around.

Like if I paid 30K in federal taxes - a 15% reduction (according to Pierre himself) means I save $4500 a year.

He is going to try to do what the Trump Administration is doing. To a lesser extent, the UCP are doing this in Alberta- cutting services in Alberta for the poor and vulnerable, and in health care, reducing funding for public schools, in favour of private Christian institutions, and redirecting the funds into the so-called "war chest for the Oil and Gas lobby.

Hopefully, he will be grilled on this, since I guarantee he will be as vague as possible on how he is going to achieve these tax cuts.

Does anyone actually read past the headline anymore?

The second paragraph says his proposal is cutting the tax rate on the lowest bracket (up to $55,867) from 15% to 12.75%.

Before you would pay 0.15($55,867) = $8,380

After you would pay 0.1275($55,867) = $7,123

You now pay $1,256 less in taxes. $1,256/$8380 = 15%

Saying he can fund this by "trimming the federal government bureaucracy" is up for debate depending on what you consider to be excessive federal spending.

If all 28 million people who filed a tax return in Canada only earned an income that was half of the lowest bracket (to be ultra conservative in accounting for all those who probably don't have any traditional income), that would equate to a reduction in tax revenue of $17.6 billion. If all of them earned the full $55,867, it would be a $35 billion reduction. The realistic number is probably somewhere in between. From what I can see, spending on federal personnel increased by about $14 billion just between 2020 and 2022.

I find most of the anti Christian sentiment is felt by cultural Christians who don't actually partake. I'm very involved in my Catholic church. It's a flourishing and diverse community where a homeless man will sit 5 feet away from Andrew Scheer.

I also find coworkers to be more respectful of my faith when they find out it's a huge part of my life than they are of people who are lukewarm involved.

When was the last time 30 mosques were burned in Canada?
The only religiously-motivated murder I am aware of in Canada in recent memory is when the Afzaal family in London was run over by a white nationalist.

Reading what Poilievre promises, are believing it are two separate things. I do not believe he can achieve this without massive cuts to critical services (i.e. Health Care).

Just look at Donald Trump for example. Aside from deporting undocumented migrants, everything he has said and done, either he failed at (ending the Ukraine and Gaza wars immediately), or boosting the economy and ending inflation (economy is crashing, while prices are still high).

The scary part of all this, is that many in the CPC inner circle are big MAGA fans. I am willing to bet any money that he is going to do exactly what Alberta is doing, and that would be an unmitigated disaster for all Canadians. In other words, Poilievre is full of shit.

Again, it seems likely that he can balance such a cut by rolling back to 2020 levels of federal personnel. How many federal employees have a direct impact on the quality/availability of healthcare services in various provinces, or the amount of education funding available? These are all items that are responsibilities of the provinces, with funding support from the federal government. Federal payroll numbers are completely different.

Exactly.

I have no idea what the point is, of bringing up atrocities against Christians in a different continent. There is persecution against every religion in some part of the World. This is precisely one of the reasons I am proud to be Canadian. We are free to believe and practice our faith without fear or persecution from our Government, due to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Maybe Poilievre can form a Canadian version of D.O.G.E., and let Elon Musk make the appropriate cuts to the Federal budget...

Yes because the Federal government in 2019 was basically a skeleton crew with no administrative capacity. I've heard DOGE is actually using Trudeau's 2015-2019 federal bureaucratic structure as a model for a completely gutted government apparatus that they want to emulate after their cost-slashing initiatives.

This must be satire?

Wait, I thought one of the complaints about the Trudeau government was how they swelled the public service, not how they completely gutted it...?

Not necessarily Elon, but definitely need to make cuts. The Liberals have been bloating bureaucracy and spending like kids with their parents credit card on spring break for a decade. They had no accountability or control. Canadas finances and economy are in shambles because of their recklessness and favour granting to various groups.

Canada is in a recession and Trump is the scapegoat.

Trump is hardly a scapegoat. He is public enemy #1.

I don't dismiss Liberal mismanagement and bloat, This was very real. The Liberal Party however is now under new management. I think things will improve.

That was written with a heavy dose of sarcasm.

It's far right propaganda. Studies have shown a significant amount of young Canadians have fallen for misinformation. Most of the Western World is dealing with this issue. Some people fall for it, unfortunately.

The idea that Carney is a danger to Canadian sovereignty is absurd. The same people think Danielle Smith is some sort of Canadian hero.

Provincial Conservative governments have been such great stewards of public finances...
