I took these pictures around Christmas 2007 / New Years 2008, but never got around to posting them. Some of the Colorado forumers may remember that visit; we had a meet at the Hyatt observatory bar.
Flying into Denver on a clear day can be fun. If you catch the right angle, you can see the whole metro area.
16th Street Mall
The famous big blue bear. I'm not generally a fan of whimsical public art, but I like this one.
I-25 in south Denver.
Hooray light rail!
There will be more light rail later... or maybe in another thread. I haven't decided yet.
In the mean time: Boulder!
Unlike Denver, Boulder is right snug up against the hills
Boulderites are serious about their 55-foot height limit. Blame this ugly building downtown (and one other) for turning them against tall buildings.
This is a public parking garage wrapped with retail and office.
Pearl Street Mall
CU, my alma mater.
I stopped in Lakewood to see Belmar, a lifestyle center that was in planning back when I lived in CO. Right now (or rather: in 2007) it was pretty mall-without-a-roof like, but it was designed well enough. In another 10 or 20 years after infill has closed the gaps, it will be OK.
The town of Woodland Park is west of Colorado Springs. I'd never been there before.
All right. I don't think this thread is too long yet, so I'ma throw those transit pictures promised earlier in here.
This is the Colorado Blvd light rail station, in south Denver.
One of the on-street stops downtown.
Convention Center station feels almost like a subway.
The free downtown circulator (with Union Station bonus background).
A regional coach bus leaving Boulder for Denver. Intercity service between them is pretty good, actually.
Boulder does an excellent job with its buses. One thing they do is give each trunk line a unique branding scheme. Instead of the "17G" (or whatever), you take the "Dash".
... or the Jump.
... or any one of several others.
