Cool Lets start out Fresh~

Nice new thread, Excelent renderings. Lets make this thread interesting and lets hope that in the lifetime of this thread a lot takes place. Lets not get off topic, and wish the best for The Spire. Wonderful buildings that will RE-Define Chicago's skyline, it will make us proud of being Chicagoans.

She's a beauty! I can't believe we've reached a new thread already for 10,000 posts on CS! I just can't wait for the real foundation pouring and construction to begin!

^ Agree, some of these give a nice clear perspective of what we'll be seeing surrounding the spire as well.

Love that Calatrava bridge in the foreground of many of the drawings.

Hopefully we'll get lucky and they'll actually build the thing.

The view of the base - size and proportions - gives no clue about the insane height of the tower. It could be a regular thousand footer or even less.
The base is not intimidating or overwhelming.
Calatrava did a good job.

Question

I also love the bridge design, but how will it go about moving when sail ships try to go through the Chicago river? Seems like it could rotate sideways, but then again that would be odd? Can someone help me?

Is it a requirement to begin new threads after a certain point?

If ever built, it would be a swing bridge and pivot on it's axis toward DuSable Park.

If so, it's simply wonderful. Calatrava has stayed true to his 'nature' theme with this wonderul ribbed pattern that implies height, strength and yet delicacy at the same time. All in keeping with the overall philosophy of the building.

The more I see the building the more I like it.

Like all apartment buildings with there be blinds for the windows or will they somehow conceal them so on the outside you cant tell if a blind is up or down. Thats what makes apartment buildings look kinda crappy because each window has blinds on it so the building looks broken up in the design if you know what i mean.

If you count from July 2005, it should probably be Volume (or "Part") 4 or 5 or something. Somebody could go back and check.

("Version" would be the wrong word because new versions replace older versions, rather than continue them.)

I think it's reasonable to count this as the continuation of the July 2005 project, even though the involvement of Kelleher, the name change to Chicago Spire, and the final massing design, didn't all come until 2006 or 2007. You can say those are lesser changes, compared with the basic project idea of a (i) twisting (ii) 2000-foot (iii) dwelling (iv) designed by Calatrava, at (v) 400/410 NLSD. Eliminating the hotel and podium, adding floors, and refining the design could be thought of as lesser changes.

Hydrogen, those are some nice renders. Very classy way to start the new thread.
