Actually, the Utah theater is not beyond repair. However, I do not think the stage area is large enough for it to be converted into a Broadway style theater. The city is hoping it will be restored and renovated into a film center. It could be a very nice Salt Lake venue for the Sundance Film Festival. It would be nice if Robert Redford could buy it, restore it, and add a film school.

The Deseret News article said: The top three levels will be a glass "veil," which Hamilton partner Bruce Bingham said will reflect sunlight in the day and be lighted from the inside in the evening, creating a lantern effect.

So, it seems the east side of the building will be the same height as a 24 story building even though there are only 21 floors.

Do we know which version is official yet? The one with or w/o the spire?

I'm 100% sure the one with the spire is not official.

It'll be the tower we've seen more recently.

PhxSprawler I appreciate you clearing that up for us. Silly me, it now makes total sense.

Oh yeah. That's a pretty tough neighborhood. It's actually in Summit County, though, but close. Yeah PhxSprawler, I'd lock my doors if I were you next time you cruise through there.

Here's a pic from a few years back....

So anyway back to 222. While the design isn't a huge surprise considering we've know about it for years now. I think it is a decent looking building especially if the top 3 floors actually end up being as the article stated. There seems to be enough step backs and angles to help it not look like a simple box. I think the addition of a canopy on the first floor, similar to the Walker Center that should be up again soon, will really ad some dimension to the sidewalk level.

Something I'd like to see more of downtown...

http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_6346047

Don't you think it would be cool to add more character places like this downtown. Maybe in the pioneer park area?

That would be awesome!

Get rid of Carls Jr. and say hello to a diner.

They would take less footprint than Carls Jr. and still have room for that high rise there.

I agree. I think that it would be a great addition downtown to have these type of diners. They should put one in near the Pioneer Park near the Broadway Lofts condos.

We've been lacking in that department since Bill and Nada's closed down a few years ago.

That just brought a flood of (mostly good) memories back. Man, I miss that place. And I didn't even realize it until your post. Yeah, there's not really anyplace like that anymore, is there?

Why in Oakley, its just a small town next to the Uinta Mountain range? Just a bunch of Summer homes there. You just have to wonder how someone will make a return on $600,000 in that area.
