Oh, interesting... it's back to normal now. Maybe Skyscraperpage's programers were testing a new beta version of the site? Whatever the case may be, it looked great!

Where is 325 S. 600 South? This is obviously a mistake.

Yeah, I got so fixated on that horribly wrong address--trying to work out different variations of it, figure out which building this was--that the real slip-up eluded me, and even further confused me, for a few minutes. Very swift, Salt Lake Tribune.

yeah, in regard to the downtown theater district, a broadway style theater is a completely different animal than either the Capitol Theater, Abravanal Hall, or the Rose Wagner. Shows like The Lion King or Wicked are much more extravagant, and appeal to a larger segment of the population. They're the glitzy part of culture. Ballet, Opera, and Symphony are a little more high-brow, and have a smaller audience. If Salt Lake could get first-run Broadway touring shows, we could sell the place out every night. This is the kind of stuff my mom and my sister-in-law get excited about--and these are not people who would rush out to buy opera tickets. The city and county need to come up with some revenue stream to build this quick, and build it big!! Maybe Moshe Safdie can come back and design it.... The Utah Theater idea, I my opinion, should be left for dead. The building is too small, and is basically just a gutted shell anyway. It's a building that I think is lost beyond repair.

I'll second that salute to the city of Sandy, SLCforme!! I'll also extend on to RSL for pillaging the community piggy-bank for their boon-doggle. These piss-ant bedroom communities are like jackals, they smell blood on Salt Lake City, so they've been rushing in to take bites at it. Well, Sandy will get it's soccer stadium, just like WVC got it's E-Center. I hope Sandy's project will be more successful than West Valley's--an arena in a field of sprawl-- but I don't believe it will be. I'm not saying that these aren't nice places to live (although I wouldn't live there), I'm just saying that there are some things that are probably better when they are centralized in one area.

Sorry for ranting.

Specialty Brands of America, a foodmaking company based in upstate New York and Vermont, sold the one-story building at 325 S. 600 South to a local group of investors calling themselves Sable Properties.

So then, what is the correct address? EDIT: OKAY, So I figured it out. It's actually in Heber City itself.

Well I think the address of the sable property may not even be in salt Lake city. As it state in the article Wasatch county will helping with the project, I think it is a new rec center in Heber. At least that's the impression I got. I will second the "Good Job Tribune" I remember reading the article regarding the new Summit Group building and I sent an email into the columnist telling her the map was wrong, sometimes I swear the trib editors have their heads up their butts or don't actually exist.

I know picture were posted yesterday regarding the 222 tower but for those of you that haven't read the trib yet today, not that we can rely on the trib. lol Here is the official announcment of the look of the tower. I like the request to ad a canopy, I think that would be a good addition.

Hmmm, So this is the final product. Looks like the spire will be included after all. From the description of the materials and colors it sounds as if this will be an elegant addition to Main. I would like to see a rendering of Simonsen's vision for a canopy. Definite kudos for including retail and a restaurant at the base.

I like how the head line of this story in the Trib says. "Developers reveal design for high-rise" Yea, it's been unveiled for like 8 years now. LOL
I wonder when Wasatch left the project last month if Hamilton Partners were going to go back to their first design. And now it looks like they have. I wish the newspaper would tell us when they plan to break ground. Is it still plan for August?

Deseret Morning News
I went through the "new" terminal this morning. Its hardly anything to write home about.

Sure its nicer and all, but its really not much of a change from what was there before. Basically they replaced the ticket counters and updated the Delta signage behind the counters to reflect their new logo.

I hope that this renovation was just a band-aid. Personally, I'm waiting for them to tear down and completely re-build all of the terminals and concourses. For a city of our size, our airport really isn't that aesthetically impressive.

When I read local media, I feel like I'm having a stroke. Just the other day I read a headline in the Deseret News about how a HISPANIC MAN ties up and robs pawn shop owner. I scratched my head, because I know from my times in journalism class that it was NOT acceptable to put the race of a person in the headline of the article (unless it's detrimental to that story).

I've never seen an article in the Deseret News state White man commits crime. I just thought it was way out of place. But this is Salt Lake, we're not really known for a wonderful media.

Oh boy! Now we're talking shop! Yes, Comrade. It's an interesting ethical question - and in the end it's up to the editor to catch that sort of thing and ask the reporter to edit.

In print, it's generally considered "leaving out information" if the person's race isn't mentioned somewhere in the article. However, there's a bit of an irregularity that when a suspect is white, they don't mention white. I've seen some cases when the name is obviously hispanic, so they don't put the race either.... It's obvious that John Doe is probably white, and Hernando Garcia is probably hispanic.

In radio, I almost never put the race in the article. The only time I do is when the police are looking for a suspect, in which case I'd write it something like:

"Salt Lake City Police want your help. They describe Smith as a white male, 6-foot 2-inches. If you have any information, please call SLPD at 555-1212."

So yeah, putting the race in the headline is pretty tacky ... but for what it's worth, usually a copy editor writes the headline - not the reporter.

Fair enough. I think putting race in the article is fine, IF that information is needed to describe a suspect or a missing person. However obviously throwing it into the headline isn't doing any of that.

I just couldn't believe they actually put it in the headline.
