According to this site, which is regularly updated, we are starting to see colours in pretty much all of Ontario. Some areas have not been updated and are most likely inaccurate by now (Eastern Ontario, Prince Edward County).

Strangely enough the only parks that are allegedly 100% green are on Lake Huron. Weathly Park in Extreme Southern Ontario is marked as 100% green, but the description says that a little bit of yellow and red is now visible. Of course things are different in urban areas.

As for that Ontario Parks link I've started taking it with a grain of salt as parks right beside each other often show vastly different things. Maybe a little bit of that has to do with the dominant tree species but I'm thinking it's more to do with whoever makes the report for each park.

Those are not scientific reports for sure. Foliage is still green in Ottawa for the most part, but as the map doesn't show any park nearby I can't really evaluate their estimates. I would say we are at 15-20% colours here in the city. I was in Kingston yesterday and it was very similar, perhaps a tad greener but barely noticeable.

It depends on the year, and the location. I could still take some wide-angle landscapes of the city with only a few small sections of colour.

I still have some FB friends from Winnipeg from my years there. They posted pictures weeks ago of completely yellow trees, when you literally could not find a yellow leaf here. But then today there are posts from a different part of the city with trees mostly green. It's still further along than us, but WAY behind where they seemed to be based on weeks-old pictures.

I took this pic yesterday, which admittedly isn't the best, but I couldn't notice much leaf change from here.



Funnily enough I'd say in town trees are little ahead of ones in the country, I attribute that to more stress but who knows. Also urban trees are more likely to be hand picked and many trees are bred (?) to take on colour earlier and longer so people can enjoy the colour for longer. I think that has a little to do with it.

Yeah, the leaves are slowly starting to change. It's a bit early for us, probably due to the cold weather. Our peak fall colour is usually around October 20, though it'll probably be a week earlier this year.

Where I am right now, I am looking out and the trees look pretty much like that too, some colours but nothing very noticeable. Meanwhile it is more noticeable in other areas. I suppose I would need a higher vantage point to really appreciate the situation. I believe the colours are more noticeable outside the city, but I admit I have not been paying much attention yesterday when I drove to Kingston and back.

We are seeing some foliage change in my part of the GTA. My street is lined with Hoeny Locust trees, which are at their very northern range here so they bloom late and turn early. They are a pretty spectacular yellow right now.

Pretty much everything else is green, however.

They've been planting some of those here also and that's one reason I don't like edge of their range trees, often they are late to bud, early to fall. I like the lasting varieties. Southern Ontario doesn't really have much of an issue with out of season snowfall events so extended leaf retention doesn't pose much of a problem in terms of snow and ice damage.

I was in Wheatley yesterday and it's about the same as everywhere else in Kent and Essex. The odd tree has changed and a few are starting to yellow, but it's still basically green.

There are, however, pockets of fully changed trees. They seem to be in swampy areas, like the bay side of Rondeau Park and Hillman Marsh near Wheatley.

Tomorrow might be the first day since mid-June that we fail to reach 20

Interestingly, the two week forecast has changed and there are no single digits lows for the next two weeks, although there are a few 10s, so there is a good chance of dipping below 10 later next week.

We're still in September and the weather forecast for Maple Creek, SK is -2°C today, -3°C Sunday, -4°C Monday, -7°C Tuesday. That's probably colder than Alaska and the surface of Mars, combined!
