Not surprised if the attacker's one of those drugged out junkies who's "lost his head", but let's see what news we will be getting after more of this comes out.

Police really need to clear out all the disorderliness happening in front of all the city's 7-11s and Tim Hortons. Businesses need to be protected. That's one of the reasons why I like Fred Harding as a mayoral candidate. He served as a cop both in the Metropolitan Police of London, as well as being an officer with West Vancouver before. London has a no-nonsense policy when it comes to disorderliness, and Fred should understand that very well, unlike those goons who has previously served as Vancouver mayors.

Or My Sister's Closet shop selling clothing items just kitty corner to the shoot-up site? Gone. You must walk around with your eyes closed. There have been huddles of homeless sleeping in doorways and especially under awnings shooting up along that stretch of Granville for at least five years, so for years before the Safe Injection Site opened. (It isn't a stupid overdose site - nobody has yet died in any of the many Safe Injection Sites in Vancouver. The stupid overdoses occur in stupid doorways and stupid lanes).

Wings always struggled, (busier at weekends, pretty dead midweek) and covid killed it. It'll probably be rebranded (again) and return, if/when the new normal settles down. If they can staff it. My Sister's Closet didn't want to leave, they were perfectly happy there. Their lease was ended by their landlord, because it's a strata unit, and the owner wanted to sell it.

Also can't wait for Aaron Gunn's petition to support mental health faculties and addiction recovery centres, along with job and housing supports for those undergoing treatment...

I don't think I'll live that long but worth a try

Then some of them won't end up dying on the streets or even attacking you. The "Gulag" is for the hardcore criminals. Yes, your bad.

Fact is, when a city has good law-and-order, and that laws are enforced, people are less prone to being disorderly. When residents like yourself don't care, and authorities don't give a hoot, then the streets will resemble mayhem. Just look at our very own DTES. I agree that there should be more treatment centres, but enforcement can make more people needing help actually get the help.

Granville Street: yes, but not as bad as today. However the surrounding streets and alleys are getting much worse now after the centre opened. Nobody died in the injection sites? If only one addict visits the injection site and he lives, that's 100%. Truth is, there are more fentanyl overdose deaths than ever before, so clearly the injection site does not work too well, and I don't think it serves that many people. After hours, who's to save those users shooting up in the tents outside the centre? Also, do you have stats showing the percentage of addicts utilizing its services? I bet it's extremely low.

Till today, Wings remains shuttered and boarded up: so much for "rebranding and reopening". That area is now a complete mess: why would a business choose to open there? Same applies for the DTES, with so many boarded-up and vandalized shops that used to be good businesses. East Hastings from Abbott to Gore and beyond is now almost devoid of functioning retail businesses, although this street used to be the main commercial thoroughfare of Vancouver. It seems that it isn't enough that we have ruined the DTES; now we are trying to expand this model to Granville Street. Seems to be a success so far. Congratulations!

Fred Harding's the same moron who said he'd get us an NBA and an MLB team at the same time. Anything that comes out of his mouth should be taken with enough salt to stop your heart.

Given the "safety" that usually follows American basketball, he can keep that crime plan to himself.

Unbelievably the perp of the Howe and Davie assault (known to police) has already been released from custody! This after a violent random attack on a woman. What a complete failure by David Eby and the NDP.

In the case of the Yaletown Supervised Injection site, I think the phrase correlation does not imply causation applies. The 2020 report to Council said;

“In recognition of the increased street activity in the Granville area that has arisen since the start of the pandemic, (Vancouver Coastal Health) and the city continue to work together to address the gap in harm reduction and overdose prevention services in the neighbourhood".

Things were bad before, and it's quite possible that they are worse now, but as we are constantly reminded by The Usual Suspects, they're worse all over the city, including in the DTES and areas of Downtown that are nowhere near Yaletown. Bad drugs, fewer services, inadequate supports, rising rents etc etc, as discussed ad nauseum here. The Yaletown SIS replaced one in St Paul's. I can't say I've notced fewer street people hanging around the hospital in the past two years.

I wasn't aware that David Eby (who isn't the Attorney General) could instruct a judge on what to do. Or the party he's a member of.

It's just as easy to argue that the junkies would've been in Yaletown no matter what, and that safe injection prevented the situation from being even worse. Cause and effect is funny like that.

If that were a love one of mine who was assaulted, the judge would be doing me a favor by releasing him, and the news outlets are also very helpful by releasing his name, and you know he has a fixed address because the news don't mention that he does not have a fixed address.

But sadly. writing the above comment can get me arrested, prosecuted with jail time by a judge who want to use me as an example and even worse banned from SSP for forum rule regulation

Well Insite saw over 170,000 visits from 5,111 drug users in 2019. That seems to quite a lot. And there were zero fatalities. That was true in 2021 too.

You seem to have forgotten (again) where people in BC are dying of drug overdoses. In 2021, "More than half (56 per cent) of people died in private residences, and 28 per cent were in other types of residences, including social and supportive housing, single-room occupancy hotels, shelters and hotels.

Fifteen percent died outside, in vehicles, sidewalks, streets, parks and other places."

Yep. The area around that site is bad every time I've been by.
