I'm personally really saddened to hear that Mayfair North might be downsized to this degree, particularly for the lack (tho not complete loss) of density at such a prominent intersection of DT. It frustrates me at a time when the city is trying to bolster support for an increased focus of downtown's role to the city that we allow such changes to take effect with little consequence.

I understand that there are multiple elements to be concerned about when considering the reasonings for altering the initial plan - but I personally feel that for a project of such prominence on the corner of Jasper and 109th, that the developer should be held at least somewhat accountable for delivering on what they originally have proposed.

Mayfair South went ahead with a portion of it's funding from multiple levels of government - I am left wondering why they were not fully committed to fulfilling the remainder of the project at the time that deal was made. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth not only at Procura, but also at the City of Edmonton for not willingly looking out for the city's best long-term interests at heart.

Please pardon my post if I'm not privy to specific information, but from what information I have available to me I'm just left disappointed considering what was being presented to the general public as a done deal.

^keep in mind that too much density in one project means the likelihood of another is reduced. Don't have all of your pie in one pan.

Agreed, one way or another this needs to be well done for such a prominent corner.

Dude, you don't know the deal, neither do I. I do know that ONLY the south tower was affordable housing and thereby received 'THE PLAN' funding. The north was/is to be market of some kind or another.

Knowing what I know about the north project, it was never really 'a done deal' as Procura had looked at multiple options to bring it to market.

Let's take a step back for a minute and perhaps a breath.

I don't particularly mind the reduced-height version, especially if it's getting a bit of a redesign that will (hopefully) make it contrast a bit better with the south tower. The original rendering made the 2 towers appear a bit too chunky and monolithic imo. I think the difference in heights adds some visual interest, as well making it a bit more human-scale on the side fronting Jasper Avenue. And while I lament the loss of density that could have been on that corner, it's not like they're ditching the design and building a strip mall or something. It's still a decent-quality project that will vastly improve the feel of that intersection.

I see that the new Downtown Canada Post building went to EDC this past week. It will be interesting to see what they propose.

^ This was floated a little while back. I hope they try to enhance the area with this facility... will be interesting to see what EDC says.

Omicron out of Vancouver is working on it... they have an interesting portfolio when it comes to commercial and institutional buildings

I guess if they're doing an upset price it won't really matter, unless there is some hope of this thing coming in under budget (which I would doubt)
