Jim Carins squeezes in just like Gordon. At more or less the same point. Parliament Ave will be the major collector for this SW area.

So is Dundee's idea then that south access to the "new" Harbour Landing will come from Highway 1 and north access by Parliament?

High traffic, major arterial roads through residential neighbourhoods are highly undesirable. The same logic was applied in Whitmore park where Gordon stops and turns into single lane Grant Rd. and in Hillsdale where Parliament ends and turns into single lane Macpherson. Having Parliament the MAC from the Lewvan to Campbell makes sense as it's a semi-Commercial area and is the safest path for heavy traffic with minimum effect on the neighbourhood.

Ok, thanks guys. I'm away from town for many weeks at a time. Last time I saw Cairns, it looked like it went wide all-out to the end.

I drove through Parliament/Rae intersection today and they are pretty much ready to go. It's not as bad as I expected.

Here is a map of what I remember seeing (I didn't catch the painted arrows on two of the turning lanes):



So there's a few things:

1) There is no longer any parking allowed on the west side of Rae for 1 block. This is fantastic as it looks like both lanes going east and west will be allowed to drive straight through (though it then goes down to 1 lane on the west side one block away).

2) They are not allowing through-traffic (it appears) on Rae in the turning lanes, but are allowing it on Parliament.

3) All of the lights are vertical with turn signals. This makes me think that at rush hour they are going to alternate between all 4 directions, one at a time. As long as it's a fairly quick rotation I think it could work well. If they are not alternating then it is actually going to be worse than it is now (since people waiting to turn left will hold up everyone wanting to go straight north or south).

So overall (assuming they rotate 4 different directions rather than 2 at a time) it will work well. I am very happy about not allowing any parking on the west side of Parliament for 1 block. I also hope they enforce this on Rae on both the north and south sides.

I like that arrow layout because that's essentially how drivers are using the intersection right now. It's nice when the traffic engineer watches what people do normally and realizes that people do things a certain way for a reason.

Now that people realize that it's legal to drive straight down Parliament in the right lane I think it's going to free up the left turning lane a lot. I think a lot of cautious people thought "Oooh, I'd better not do that, I'm not sure if it's legal. I'll just stay in the left lane and wait my turn"

I am sure as flows are watched this will be adjusted to suit. New lights usually are.

As for other light locations. I wouldn't mind seeing lights on Pasqua at the Highway 11 overpass. Sometimes the left turn is backed up nearly to the beginning of the offramp. And with this new proposed SkyWood sub division and the filling in between Rochdale and Highway 11 it is going to get even worse. Also trucks attempting to make a left to go North from EB 11 have a heck of a time at most times during the day. Slow accel truck combined with high speed 70km/h traffic equal someone going to get injured or killed. I believe that stretch should be lowered to 50km/h.

To me it looks like piles are being poured for something bigger. One of the managers from LD told me it was going to be a galaxy.

I drove past the new Keg site on Albert @ Dewdney today and noticed that the structural steel is going up. There is a rendering of what the new location will look like and it is nothing like the South Albert Street location. I was unable to take a picture of the rendering but if someone else is able to do so, it is on the fencing along the Albert Street sidewalk. Any bets that it will be open before the hotel next door?
