I think that these signs are fine. They will become as well known as the City Centre signs were. A landmark.
This is no Eiffel Tower. It's a mechanical penthouse with car dealership esthetics and giant red letters on top of an otherwise decent building.

That said, it's more confusing and funny than anything else. I'm not losing any sleep over this one.

I think its more that the fact they used a 72pt font when it should have been a 48pt?

There is just something that seems off about it.

‘Noisy neighbour’ air-conditioning system irritates Glebe residents
Those living within earshot of The Clemow describe a sound similar to a series of drones hovering over their homes.

Around a certain stretch of Bronson Avenue, there is a high-pitched noise in the air. John Crump describes it as a “high-pitched whine and roar.”

“Eventually, it’ll make you a bit crazy having to listen to this stuff all the time,” he said when he went to the nearby street to have another listen. The sound stretches out to nearby houses, including some located on Glebe, Clemow and Powell avenue.

The culprit is a new, neighbouring 17-storey apartment building, The Clemow, at Bronson and Carling Avenue. Promising luxury hotel living to adults aged 55 and over, it opened in fall 2024.

This is the first summer with the building’s air-conditioning on full blast.

Crump, president of the Glebe Community Association, says noise from the air-conditioning system has caused issues for area residents all summer. Around the neighbourhood, multiple large signs call The Clemow a “noisy neighbour.”

Crump has heard plenty of complaints from neighbours about a lack of sleep and increased stress. Excessive noise and noise pollution has also been raised as a health risk as it’s been linked to negative impacts on human health, according to the Ontario government.

“There’s a real threat to the quality of life and the right of people to enjoy a peaceful environment around their homes,” Crump said. “It’s incumbent on the company to try to find a solution as quickly as possible.”

One has to wonder if the building was 30+ floors then the AC units would be out of ear shot at ground level...

This stretch of Carling is a bit of an unpleasant dead zone. Hopefully there are enough people in the immediate vicinity to keep this place buzzing.

This is an interesting spot for a bar like that. I was pretty surprised when I first noticed what was going in that spot. It's actually just a block from Bronson, and there is pretty dense housing in that area without much in the way of amenities. My understanding is that they are hoping to get a bunch of patronage from the building itself, but clearly they'll need support from the broader area to make a go of it.

Interesting businesses pop up on that stretch of Bronson - there is a flower shop that replaced the weed store and a newish Columbian cafe. Would love to see this reach a critical mass. The progress has been hampered by some planning errors. It was a massive mistake to allow the condo building at Powell and Bronson to be built without any streetfront presence, but there is hope for more activity with the conversion of the office tower at the corner of Carling to residential. You'd just need a few more businesses to create a decent little node there.
