There isn't a bigger city in Canada with an airport as close to their downtown.

Edmonton moved their airport. It was about 4 km straight north of downtown. Regina International is about 3 km west of downtown.

I don't think the city would have to worry about moving the airport, at least for another century at the rate of our population growth.

Exactly. Regina's population is starting to decrease quarter over quarter again, for the first time in a decade. The boom years from 2007-2017 are over for a while.

This is not true.

Saskatchewan lost population two quarters in a row. Regina still grew in that time. Every other area of the province except PA and Saskatoon lost people over the same time period.

Over the last year Regina grew by 2300 people. Quarterly numbers do not exist for CMAs.

Saskatoon remained one of the fastest growing cities in the country.

Currently the Regina Transit downtown location, I wish this building was given some renovation love and new updated evening lighting (especially to show off the pillars and facade). Would be a perfect spot for a second Grassroots Restaurant Group (Avenue) Regina location. A rooftop bar would be awesome to have at this location.

A solid early twentieth century Neo-classical bank building. Much altered, most of the rear was demolished in the late 70’s for construction of the Cornwall Centre. Now used as offices for Regina Transit.

The Merchants Bank was a Canadian chartered bank which started in Quebec. Its first venture outside of the province was in 1867, when it took over the 17 branches of the Kingston-based Commercial Bank of Canada, renaming itself the Merchants Bank of Canada. As of 1919, the chain is known to have 329 branches from coast to coast. In 1922 the bank was bought by the Bank of Montreal.

I wasn't able to snag photos but the Mixed Use is fully framed/sheeted with windows and door installed. Sobey's Liquor is slightly behind that but appeared to be fully sheeted as well. The architecture on Sobey's Liquor does appear to be different from the other locations around Regina but that could just be my eyes fooling me.

Anyone know the timeline for the rebranding/renovation (again) to the Travelodge East (formerly Chateau Regina, formerly Travelodge East)? I hope they are doing a FULL renovation.

This is so disheartening because downtown was the most vibrant it's been in the last 20 years right before the pandemic. I'm hoping that all the newer businesses can hold on until things improve. I think that the West 11th ones seem to be doing well. Not so sure about Hamilton. The higher end element was still a concept in it's infancy. Oliver's has already vacated Hamilton for the Cornwall, although we all know that isn't much of a safer bet in today's climate. Anybody heard anything recently about Beer Brothers? I really feel the city is going to have to invest in Scarth Street mall if they want it to continue to be a viable spot. It's currently a desolate wind tunnel.
