Don't know if they plan on announcing the start, but once we start seeing double trains exclusively running on the track during weekdays, that should give us a pretty good indication.

Vast majority of trains running this weekend was singles, but that is what they plan on running during regular weekend service.

Why would having double trains exclusively be a prerequisite to the test period? I would think they would be testing for typical day operations, and won't they have a mix of double and single trains depending on the time of day? Maybe the ability to switch between coupled and uncoupled trains on the fly is part of the testing?

No, OC Transpo already mentioned that coupled trains will be used on weekdays only and single trains on weekends only

The 12 consecutive day testing will emulate regular service therefore, they won't be testing any sort of scenario beyond regular service. From what I understand, they will exclusively run double trains during the week and singles during the weekend. I believe they determined it would be too laborious to switch to singles during the off-peak periods of the week, opting to reduce frequency instead.

From my understanding, the 12 consecutive days will mean double trains only running during the week, so that should be an indication that they are close, or actively performing the last stage of testing, that elusive 12 days.

You're probably right. If we are still seeing some singles during the week, they probably haven't started the 12 days yet.

I noticed today that the red "O" decal has been placed on one of the lanterns at Tunney's. Haven't seen one of those anywhere but Lees so far.

Also, the walls in the trench at Tunney's look unfinished. I thought they were supposed to have a mural? Not sure when/if that is expected to be done.

Wouldn't be a problem if we had gone with driverless trains

Not a mural, but coloured glass. I actually was wondering if the unfinished looking walls are really just a protective cover for now.

That makes a lot of sense. I am hoping the finished product gives the trench a bit of life. Everything around Tunney's is so grey.

I recall a video of Tunney's from somebody, but I do not recall who nor when, of a train going through the switch.

This is the reason the pantographs have upsloped edges - the crossing wires will not get snagged, but are smoothly guided up and lifted.

Keep in mind we're fast moving to the world of mobile payments. If you have a smartphone, you can have next bus information at any stop. So you really only need the electronic boards at much busier locations.

When I was in Montreal last December, I noticed one of their bus stops at a relatively minor stop (though on a busy street) had the billboard on the bus shelter replaced with a digital billboard and it would periodically show when the next buses were expected to arrive. That could certainly be one solution.

Metrolinx is working on it. They've said less than 5 years last year:

And that article says one of the hiccups is that Android phones can support their payments but Apple devices can't.

The new Presto app is alright if you've tried it. Instant validation of a load with NFC.

They took down the construction fencing at Bayview during the day yesterday. It’s really nice how open the lower level is after years of feeling squeezed on the paths through the fences and hoarding.
