Anyways, I've heard that the city has created & opened additional pathways over by Douglas Park so people no longer have to run/walk on the road. Anyone been over there recently to confirm?
Yes, there's a pathway from the Ring Road flyover on Assiniboine down to the corner (so past Douglas Park and Leibel) and down Macdonald (past the hill) to the turnoff to Candy Cane Park and the Science Centre. It's got good separation from the road too. It's great! They paved it around the first week of November or so.

You must not have been following the news, because Victoria Ave is in the middle of a major rebuild (right now) where they are replacing the sidewalks, boulevards, etc. It's great. Also, we do have a year-round farmers market, and have for a few years. In the winter it moves indoors, obviously.

As for the rest of your stuff...well, yeah, people would obviously rather move to a larger city. People would also rather move to Regina than Yorkton, or Yorkton rather than Swift Current, etc. Generally speaking, very few places that are smaller than larger centres are attractive except for specific reasons (resort towns, etc). Most people would never want to live in Winnipeg compared to Vancouver either. It's just how it works. But smaller centres failing to keep up with larger ones doesn't mean the smaller ones are worthless.

They actually do have some certain benefits in Saskatchewan, and in their cities, which Winnipeg doesn't have. For example, opportunities for work and promotion, climbing up the corporate ladder, so to speak. Plus tons of trades work lately too, the fact that companies are using Regina and Saskatoon as corporate test beds, alot more opportunity in Saskatchewan than Winnipeg, if you're in your 20s, trying to go somewhere in life...

Granted Winnipeg may have some certain advantages over Regina (sports teams, larger size, railroad terminals, etc etc), but when Regina and Saskatoon can land bands that completely skip Winnipeg almost 3-4x its size? I have to hand that point over to Saskatchewan. Which is astounding, because when economic generators such as travelling acts, musicians and conferences skip Winnipeg - for cities way smaller such as Regina, Saskatoon and even Grand Forks... then usually, its a red flag to change something. And whatever Regina and Saskatoon may be doing, seems they're doing the right thing. So kudos to them. If this economic boom keeps up in Saskatchewan, I might just even more there, to be honest. I could use the trades work...

What the...? There is definitely no "boom" happening here and trades work may be at an all time low. Are you just completely making stuff up?

I mean, compared to Winnipeg, and even Alberta... its still quite lively. As a welder, especially. Plus more opportunities to start a career and life as well. Saskatchewans still growing enough, to help people climb corporate ladders... plus a much better mindset to keep and attract talent.

At this point, if you were to offer someone a house in Winnipegs North End - and Regina, hell, even Pilot Mound, as an option - its to the point where people would rather pick Saskatchewan to raise a family and start a career, versus Winnipeg.

Saskatchewans growing, and your premier actually has balls to get things done. Versus Pallister? Saskatchewans in a good place, and with people leaving Winnipeg to move right next door, its a sign of good progress on behalf of Saskatchewan. Which is good, because out in Calgary, the next biggest group of inter-Canadian migrants outside of MB and NL, is honestly Sask. And with riding costs in BC and Ontario too, Saskatchewan as a whole can benefit from attracting talent, money and investments that Manitoba and Alberta, may not be able to attract. Particularly in resource development and mining as a whole.

Unless you think Saskatchewan should be kept as a backwater, agricultural only, Pol Pot-style system in the 21st Century? The NDP ran Manitoba and Alberta into the ground... at least in Sask, you guys should be grateful for the actual progress, development and growth that your province has seen lately. Just saying. You don't seem very... optomistic.

Our Premier is the blandest in Confederation. His only notably achievement is being chosen by his own party to replace Brad Wall when Wall resigned. Also...your view of recent history in Alberta re: the NDP might be a little skewed. The Alberta economy was already in the process of tanking when the NDP were elected, and the global collapse of oil prices was outside of any regional government's control.

Lol. Unlike yourself I live here and have lived here for about 90% of my life. I know exactly what we are and what we aren't but thanks for trying to dazzle me with complete bullshit.

I can't see the Casino giving up the parking lot. I'd love to know who the people are pushing for that parking lot to be removed. Technically minors aren't allowed on the interior sidewalk alongside the building. Putting a park there doesn't make sense.

The city is looking for feedback regarding ”practical and aesthetic“ improvements to Sask Drive, Albert St., and Broad St. planned to take place from 2023 to 2024.

The plan also talks about “temporary pocket parks” to the north as the area is developed (I assume this means along the north side of Sask Drive) and mentions a potential partnership with the casino to create a new park in front of the casino.

Regarding the bolded part: if this is something they go ahead with, the corner of Broad and Sask Dr might be a good location/opportunity for a large, interactive fountain. I’m not sure exactly how they would go about this. I imagine expanding the casino parkade and leaving the road/drop off lanes and removing the parking?
Having a park there would make for a nice gateway to downtown. There is also mention of a “pedestrian promenade “ west of the tracks along Sask Drive which was part of the plans when the stadium was built. The easier and more pleasant the walk to the exhibition grounds, the better in my opinion.

There's a hole punched in the west face of the North Canadian Oils building (probably in the parkade levels) - anyone know what that's about?

If another hotel chain or brand of hotel chain (that we currently don’t have in Regina) were to build in Regina downtown, which one would be your top pick?

I want ALT Hotels to build downtown for sure and I would love a Marriot as well.

ALT Hotels no question. I love their projects in Saskatoon and Winnipeg, it just seems right that Regina should get one downtown as well.

I've stayed at the ALT Calgary East Village and it's pretty impressive. If they build in Regina I'd be very excited.
