Work appears to be continuing at a nice pace.

Noticed yesterday:
- Work on the centre median between 22nd and 21st has begun
- Some of the tree grates on that block have been installed. I've noticed 2 different grate designs, one is a sort of lion motif (borrowing from carvings on a historic building, maybe?), and one is more straightforward with "3rd Ave" inscribed. Very nice work.

So they're not doing any work on the South Bridge roads this year?

Thank goodness it appears they're extending the bike path under the 14th St overpass. I feel very vulnerable biking underneath that thing before the trail starts!

Is the median raised like 25th or low like Broadway?

^ It's hard to tell for certain at this point. It certainly does not look like it will be as high as 25th Street's.

Since the South Bridge project is being completed by a private contractor, including all the roadways, it won't likely show up on the city's roadwork list. I suspect that this list is of roadwork being done by the city crews.

The city is doing a complete re-pave of the street in front of my house. Right now it is pothole central, so I am happy!

Do you see this as bad? Better underground than at grade I say.

This is really unfortunate, this is such a symbol of well developed areas. I remember when I was in Calgary and 16th Ave. N or the Trans Can. Highway was redone throug the city with raised planters people were in complete shock. I remember telling them how that has been in Stoon for a long time. Hopefully the city realizes the aesthetic value this adds to an area.

I know what you mean by the high raised planter medians (such as on 25th), but it's much too early to tell how high these medians will be or the form they'll take.

I was just commenting that the median as it appears now does not look like it will be as large as those on 25th. But the one's on 25th are quite substantial in size and would be too big if dropped on to 3rd Ave. 25th Street is a high traffic street and so those large medians are helpful at mitigating that traffic, but the aim of 3rd Avenue should be pedestrian-oriented, and so planted medians that large would be inappropriate, in my opinion.

All that I can say for sure about the medians is what the City has already provided: "Planted centre median, street trees, and visual amenities" Source

^ Yeah, I don't think they're raised medians with continuous planters a la 25th. Jay walking should be encouraged (pedestrian friendly )...there is mid-block crossings too, I think (EDIT: looks like Broadway more so than 2nd Ave as there doesn't appear to be any mid-block crossings).

I was humorously thinking the same thing. The presentations to council, marketing campaign, sales office have been nothing but a clever ruse to hide their true intentions — more parking!

Seriously though, this stipulation gives me the impression that Lake Placid and Co. have at least enough capital for a parking lot. Kind of reassuring I guess, but extends the time line for project completion indefinitely.

The City should just develop the site into a park for vagrants to hang out in. Throw some underground parking in — if there's enough appetite for more public expenditure on RL — to satisfy the pro-parking extremists for a couple years. After completion, we could host a DV8-type music festival just like the good ol' days (nostalgia ).

I hope financing is secured.

Not a bad thing, per se, but nothing near having the full project. And besides, the top of the underground parking would be used for surface parking if that was all that ended up being built.

^ Haven't heard about that one. Google doesn't turn up much legit info about a Stoon franchise.

I noticed the 3rd Ave Master Plan depicts a median preventing 21st Street traffic to cross 3rd Ave. I thought council passed an amendment to remove the median...or was it just discussed?

I wonder if Bellissimo (the restaurant sharing the building) is doing any good. Anyone been?

J.D. Peppercorns closed about a year ago, I think (probably a bit less). Bellissimo took over.
