Actually it isn't meh. As a citizen who ultimately pays the taxes that allows the government to provide the services required for you to enjoy your current lifestyle you should have an idea.

I remember when there was the flooding in the Estevan area and people were screaming on social media about where was the Army. Well there is a process that has to happen before support from the CAF is provided for disaster relief.

The local municipality is the first responders and if they cannot handle a situation they will ask the province for support. Province will make an assessment and if federal help is made they then ask the Ministry of Public Safety (Ralphy boy). Once the ministry feels they need military support then the ministry will ask DND. Only then will orders from Canadian Joint Operations Command (CJOC) will be sent down to Joint Task Force West (Edmonton) who will then provide regular force military from the bases in the area and augment them from local militia and naval reserve divisions.

Now in the run up to this emergency, CJOC has staff already planning for this years flood season. They are looking at hydrology reports, snowfall amounts, reservoir capacities, numbers of pers available, etc etc.

Hopefully this will help to inform a few people here that when a natural disaster happens there is a process for support to happen and screaming on social media will not make things move faster.

My post was a facetious one liner poking fun at Toronto so I didn't Google the exact process that would need to happen but thanks for the history lesson.

As I wouldn't be making the phone call to whatever department handles national emergencies and I won't be "screaming on social media" I think I'm fine with my level of knowledge in that area at this time.

When is the city going to plow Hamilton Street? I'm sure all the businesses love that the on-street parking has been non-existent since Saturday night.

If the make-up place had stayed on Hill Avenue, their in-front parking was clear every day this week. Is this how the city expects to lure businesses into the core?

Downtown is cleared after hours so think between 10pm and 6pm. But I get the point you are making that it seems to be taking a while. It was a heavy storm and snowfall but I hope the city takes the time a couple of weeks from now to review what was done well and what could have been done better.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. I'm actually a fan of the stadium. There was no snide remark intended. I was just trying to point out that it makes no sense to start plowing the residential streets at this point.

I am looking out my office window and I can see a steel structure going up near Angus street and 10th avenue (or maybe Dewdney and Rae, it is hard to tell from my angle). It looks to be at least 2 stories tall.

Does anybody know what this is?
