Hotel on Lewvan and Dewdney

Looks like construction is about to start, it is fenced off and there are trailers on site. I believe this hotel is a Marriott, and I think someone posted it would be 7 stories, does anyone know if a crane will be used for the construction?

Is there a rendering or design plan available?

I posted the link to the Planning Commission application last year. It appears to be a stucco box.

It does, as it was communicated as the ONLY option Costco would consider in Regina, a move to a bigger store further east, and the sale of the current location.

Do you have that link handy?

At 7 stories it would be steel frame so yes they'd need a crane.

I'm no expert on this, and I don't have any inside information, but I have heard the same thing. Costco doesn't want 2 stores in Regina, as they like how busy their store is right now. The only thing I heard that they don't like is the way the parking lot was developed for that store. Here's to hoping a better location will alleviate the parking situation.

On a side note, the Costco in Medicine Hat is awesome. The store is on the back part of the lot, so you enter the parking lot further away from the store. There is no vehicle traffic right in front of the doors, which make for a much more pleasant shopping experience. Plus there is tons of parking there.

I'm also no expert, but Regina's Costco isn't unique. Most of their stores that I've been to have massive line-ups & parking chaos. It's a bit of a risk, but my impression is that they like this (at least the line-up portion, not necessarily the parking chaos).

...and looking at their other Canadian locations, I'd say they need around population of 250-350k per location (Winnipeg is about 1:350K; Calgary & Edmonton 1:250k; Victoria & Vancouver 1:350k; Ottawa 1:300k; Montreal 1:315k)

I know Regina serves a larger trading area than just the Regina CMA, but I'd say 2 locations would really be pushing it... which may explain their (apparent) preference for a new larger location.

For some reason you apparently can't link directly to the City Council and Committees' data base. You will have to search for the RPC minutes from Aug. 13, 2013 here:

The brick wall at the back of the former Zellers in Vic Square is open. Maybe 1/3 of the bricks in the top half of the wall are gone. There's construction fence around it and some equipment. Anyone know the plan for there?

The former Cindercrete field on University Park Drive is fenced and markers are up. Prep starting for the 4 storey, multi-residential that was petitioned against, I'm guessing.

I was told from a credible source that 3S Health is moving into the old Canadian Tire building on south Albert.

Kind of strange to use a retail building like that on a valuable strip for office space.

I live in Harbour Landing and I just got a notice saying that they are re-zoning Parliament Ave from Lewvan Dr to about 1km west of Lewvan (the part they haven't built yet). They are changing it from office space to commercial, and the notice says it will be similar to South Albert.

'Dunno. (Most likely a mobile crane though.)
