Maybe someone else can sum it up better than me, but when it comes to highrise towers (ie more than 6 or 7 floors) construction in Regina has been kicking S'toons hiney. Since 2007 only a few have been built here - Holiday Inn, a 15 story condo building on Spadina and the Lighthouse. There have been a large number of proposals like River landing (several highrise towers), 275 2nd ave and City Centre Tower but none currently under construction. There has been a ton of lowrise construction in S'toon though, several 4/5 story buildings in the CBD/warehouse district, UofS, new art gallery, police headquarters and densification/infill throughout the existing core and east side neighbourhoods.

Seems the focus in Saskatoon has been more towards revitalization than new construction as in Regina. And both are fine by me!

Anyone have a clue where the Sobeys Liquor store will be built? Obviously, in the "Rochdale Blvd area" - a condition of the SLGA RFP - and I understand it won't be attached to the existing store.

Both of the Sobeys expect to be open this summer, and Willow Park expected to open in the Spring... yet none have shovels in the ground (as far as I know).

I've heard SLGA is giving Willow Park a very hard time - nitpicking every aspect of their plan (e.g.: WP wants a 10-12,000sqft, 2 storey store PLUS a 5,000sqft on-site warehouse PLUS a tasting room... SLGA is saying the warehouse & tasting room have to fit within the store. And SLGA hasn't even agreed to the 10-12,000sqft number, sounds like they want it smaller).

Were critical values not specified in the RFP such as the location? If it wasn't important enough to mention in the RFP why are they concerned now? I don't understand people/orgs that put out vague, undefined RFPs and then argue about what they get. If it wasn't mentioned in the original request then it should have been one of the first questions for clarification sought by bidders and then published for all to see.

Just like the wonderful metropolis to the north , the city that has its name so wonderfully imprinted on all the Canadian coins thanks to the historical Queen Victoria who I might add was a frumpy beautiful lady , speaking of low rise office buildings the city has had its fair share of , example this building noted here ,

The new district head office building for Graham Construction has a prominent location in the light industrial area of north east Regina. Many other projects were completed such as the harbour landing business park , the large building on central Albert Street , a new one at the airport and multiple others around the city

I am not sure I believe this. Firstly, they just spent millions re-doing their parking lot and adding the gas bar. Secondly there is some sort of major upgrades underway right now on the roof that might include new HVAC. Finally, I think they own the UP Drive location. They are not tenants.

I tend to agree with you Stormer. Rumours I've heard indicate the Costco brass is scoping out land in the north west part of the city.

Which makes sense considering there are plans to move 40,000+ people west of Lewvan in the next twenty-five years.

The east-end saw the majority of development from the late 90s until 2008, Harbour Landing from 2008-2015, and in the future it will centred around Cooperstown.

I would imagine they would set up shop north of Walmart off Rochdale. And I hope they extend Argyle around to Diefenbaker as is shown on the plans for that area of town.

I am related to the person who informed me of Costco's intention to move east...and he works there. He also mentioned that they would look to sell the current location. If they couldn't sell the building, they would tear it down and split up the land into smaller parcels to sell...

Either way, I don't imagine the change is iminent.

Doesn't preclude a northwest location.

I could see Costco opening a 2nd location in the northwest and keeping the east one as-is for the time being since a 2nd location should take a lot of the pressure off the east warehouse. I have been a member since that location first opened as Price Club, and have seen the membership increase, the parking get scarcer, and the lines at checkout get longer. I know I would go more frequently and purchase more if I didn't always have to stand in line. Build another store, dammit
