The "What is a Suburb?" thread shows us that there is no strict definition, and it often depends on what city people are from.

A surprisingly large amount of people I know view the city as: downtown and suburbs. In other words, if it ain't downtown, it's in the suburb. Weird.

That's pretty much how it works in Calgary. Less weird, I know, since it goes SFD right at the edge of downtown here.
