I really don't get it either. Its not like you are tearing down a $950k house on an ocean front lot like you may do in Victoria. For $950k you are getting some mature trees and a large lot......not my idea of value. The expression "money drunk" comes to mind.

The pics by Newstalk of 13 Leopold only show the curved glass left. Anyone know if the owners are planning to incorporate that into the new structure as part of the enviro-sustainability (reusing glass?)? Or has it just not been hauled away yet?

A dude in a small truck just pulled up on the grass next to the house and took a bunch of glass blocks and other junk he could pick up with his hands and drove away. He didn't have any markings showing he was with the crew or not.

Sorry if the 13 Leopold chat is starting to overwhelm this thread. My office overlooks the house so it's an interesting thing for me to watch.

Is it just me, or does the copper appear to be darkening already in many places? By the time the scaffolding is off it will be patchy throughout, it's kind of sad. Wish they would have kept it entirely covered until complete, and then did a big reveal.

62 lowry is the biggest lot in south Regina at just over 18,000 Sq ft. There adding a second level on the house and above the garage. The value of that lot alone is about $500,000. I believe that house went for $850,000 if I'm not mistaken when everything was said and done. So a partial tear down and rebuild doesn't sound like a bad idea. Especially in a gentrified area. I believe the couple that own it are a radiologist and an owner of a consulting firm.

It's definitely massive but not the biggest. Check out 39 Academy Park Road.

And if you want to include Lakeview as "south end", there's places like 2990 Albert Street.

I nearly spit my coffee out when I heard that the building owner was complaining that the protesters were inhibiting the company's ability to lease office space & was looking to have them removed.

No - the complete sh!tshow that is your "sidewalk" is a key reason you're not leasing space... if anything, the protesters' tents hide the 5+ years of neglect & inaction by the owners.

Even Indigenous & Northern Affairs Canada isn't complaining about the protesters. Granted, after some public reaction to his comments, the owner changed his tune (I'm going to guess INAC or Public Works had a conversation with them & told them to settle down).

Any idea why the City hasn't stepped in & dealt with the sidewalk - they certainly have the authority to pave it. I've heard that the owner is essentially insolvent, but still - even if the City never recovered the cost via property tax surcharges, I'd think there's a public policy incentive to have one of the more prominent locations in Regina to look halfway decent. But I'm weird that way.

I'm not sure. I drove by on a big, sunny day - didn't seem to be any shadows, just less of a sheen to the copper... I wouldn't say it's significant, but it certainly didn't seem to sparkle like on the reveal day. Might have been perspective, though.
