I nearly spit my coffee out when I heard that the building owner was complaining that the protesters were inhibiting the company's ability to lease office space & was looking to have them removed.
No - the complete sh!tshow that is your "sidewalk" is a key reason you're not leasing space... if anything, the protesters' tents hide the 5+ years of neglect & inaction by the owners.
Even Indigenous & Northern Affairs Canada isn't complaining about the protesters. Granted, after some public reaction to his comments, the owner changed his tune (I'm going to guess INAC or Public Works had a conversation with them & told them to settle down).
Any idea why the City hasn't stepped in & dealt with the sidewalk - they certainly have the authority to pave it. I've heard that the owner is essentially insolvent, but still - even if the City never recovered the cost via property tax surcharges, I'd think there's a public policy incentive to have one of the more prominent locations in Regina to look halfway decent. But I'm weird that way.
