If anything the CCC is a hindrance for negotiations on buying the space. They might be doing great things but non-profits, by definition, don't make money.

I know of at least one non-profit that does fairly well around here. Just because it is non-profit, doesn't mean that it doesn't have value.

This is the chicken or egg thing that always bugged me - "people" don't want to come downtown after 6pm, because everything's closed. Businesses don't want to open downtown, becasue there are no customers after 6pm... but customers aren't downtown becasue there are no businesses, and there are no businesses because there are no customers... repeat, repeat, repeat.

We needed businesses to take a leap of faith - O'Han's, Beer Bros, Flip, Crave, Rooftop, all made early leaps... but we still hear the "there's nothing open after 6pm" argument.

Hopefully with Victoria's, Fat Badger, Twenty10, [unnamed one in Canada Place], maybe more, this argument will die down & we'll hit a tipping point downtown.

The guy who owns Avord Tower, and I believe, Flip, Salt, and Atlantis, is also the developer of the Legion so that all makes sense.

Peaked in to Dee's when I was walking by. There is some light demo going on. That would be a fantastic space with the huge arched windows and 22 foot ceilings.

If they go the pub route, it could be like a scaled-down version of the Bank & Banker in Victoria, BC.

Does anyone know anything about the proposed development at the bus turn-around at Dewdney and Horace (5525 Dewdney Avenue). I jotted down the development number but didn't find anything. I assume it's an affordable scheme like on 13th.

Not sure what you mean by typical Irish pub? It serves Irish style food, chicken pot pies, etc. It does not have a bunch of Irish stuff on the wall like ohans if that's what you mean. Nice low key place, hopefully it stays that way

Chad Novak seems to hate everything that is going on in this city. Makes you wonder why the guy stays here. Is there anything that makes him happy? Besides the obvious...Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese and a few bags of chips.

Irish Pubs should remain in Ireland. Kitsch needn't exist. We don't need stereotypical "Irish Pubs" that are tourist traps. If it's just a pub that sells some Irish stuff then it's a good addition to the city.
