Maybe he was a construction worker? Like always, there is very little reporting about suicides by the local media.

It's not that difficult to get into a construction site, if you really are determined. And I imagine someone who seriously plans to end their life is pretty determined.

When I was in high school, we went inside a number of finished and unfinished high rises in downtown Dallas (this was during the late 80's boom). We went during the day, and only encountered construction workers. We even went up in the elevators, arriving on unfinished floors (I know, it was stupid). Occasionally a construction worker would run us off, but several of them just didn't do anything.

It looks like they currently have the glass installed up to the 50th floor, the next floor has a small setback and a transition in the design of the windows. After that the crown. It will be fun to watch in the next few weeks.
Also looks like the W is about done with the hotel floors and will be starting on the condo section soon.

I think it's looking very similar -- in fact, now that we can see the top floors w/o the glass, I notice more detail in the render... such as the final mechanical floorplates being rectangular (you can see through the glass at the very top of the render).. and the rooftop of the condo floors being so thick (I guess to eliminate sound from the amenity areas above?). It also looks as though the smaller, rectangular final top floors will provide the clearance for the tilted glass at the very top..

I didn't notice til now that the railing for the outdoor space on the 55th floor appears to be glass. Is that what people were thinking might be blue neon? It looks like a railing to me.

Thanks for the pics Kevin! Great closeups of the very top.

These were taken from along 360 at Lost Creek Boulevard. There's an office park on Lost Creek Boulevard. Park there and cross the street. You'll have to run up the hill up to 360, but the view is nice. I took these around 11 am, and as you can see, it was very hazy out. You could see everything from the UT Tower to Legacy, but not all in one view.

Maybe it's just me, but ever time I see the Austonian's crown, I always think of that top hat worn by Mr. Peanut (of Planter's Peanuts)

Here's some photos from 9/10

Yes indeed. A very sleek tower. The rendering of the A' shows it as a bit fat though...

SkyscraperPage is credited with info about The Austonian

The Austonian's blog links to SkyscraperPage.com and credits us with noting that The Austonian can be seen from 4 counties in Central Texas.

The Austonian can be seen from I-35 in extreme north Austin (Williamson County), Turnersville Road just east of Buda (Hays County), along Highway 71 (Bastrop County) and of course here in Travis County, where The Austonian can be seen from points all over town. See the view from Hays County here.
The Austonian is the tallest building to be topped out in Texas since 1987 when Houston and Dallas both saw 700 footers that year. And Austin's skyline is only the 4th in the southern US to see a 600+ foot tower during this decade. It is the tallest residential building in the western US, the tallest residential building in Texas, and the tallest building in Texas outside of Houston and Dallas. Austin also became the 3rd city in Texas to have a building with more than 50 floors.
