Yeah, I noticed the date on that rendering was May. Must have missed it. It just seems like the building will not really echo the frost tower, like It once was designed to. I just hope hope hope that is not blue neon lighting. barf

woops, I found that on google :*

Post Austin Named One of the Top 10 Places to Buy a Home by ABC News

It might not echo the great Frost Bank Tower, but it will become a powerful product of the Austin skyline.

Austin Named One of the Top 10 Places to Buy a Home
by ABC News

Again topping the charts as a culturally vibrant
and economically viable city, Austin was named
one of "The Top Ten Places to Buy a Home"
by ABC News. This is in part due to Austin's
strong job market and stable housing values.
Cities that are state capitals and college
towns tend to be more "recession proof"
according to Zillow, the online real
estate company ited in the report.

If you move here you will need to change your user title to "future longhorn".

Yup you caught me LOL... I think the crown will look good. I do think they have added those bars around the crown since earlier renderings did not show that. The inside should still be lit but maybe the blue neons will give it some flair. I do like Neons, the One Congress Plaza is for sure one of my favorite buildings lit up at night. Then again they could change color similar to the Monarchs lighting who knows. I guess either we have to find somebody who knows what they are doing to the crown or wait and see when its finished.

I hope it is lit up, at least in the crown. The darker buildings are growing on me though. Spring and Legacy. And the taller towers now with interior lights on at night are really creating a different looking skyline. It's unlike anything Austin has had before. Most of our big noticeable towers at night in the past have been office towers, which have limited interior lighting on at night. But these big residential towers being residential, are lit up inside at night. It's really creating a different look on the skyline and making it feel bigger. I had been hoping for more lighting on buildings like Spring and Legacy, but even with their subdued lighting, they are adding something to the overall skyline. Legacy especially with its lone blinking light. Austin has never had a highrise before with a flashing light. The skyline is really transforming, and beyond just speaking of height.

Well this is interesting. Now that the upper mechanical floors are going up, it appears the crown will extend only a few feet above (if at all) above the top "59th" floor. What we see now will essentially form the 'core' of the glass crown.

So, it looks like we're topping out just after Labor Day... another significant milestone in our city's history (for us skyscraper aficionados at least)

Children’s museum closed after man jumps from building
By Melissa B. Taboada | Thursday, August 27, 2009, 04:29 PM
An unidentified male in his late teens or early 20s jumped to his death from the Austonian condominiums at about 11 p.m. Wednesday, landing on the roof of Dell’s Children Museum, said Lisa Cortinas, a spokeswoman for the Austin Police Department.

No foul play is suspected, according to police.

The children’s museum was closed Thursday but will re-open at 10 a.m. Friday.

One more thing...

This makes two suicides in about a month from people jumping from Austin's two tallest buildings.

That sucks. Not only is that the 2nd suicide from a skyscraper in Austin in a month, but it's the third this year. The other was when a man jumped from the Capitol Tower.

By the way, I spotted it from a new place this evening. I was riding my bike down Stassney just about to cross the train tracks and saw it. Of course I was up on the sidewalk there which is a good 3 to 4 feet higher than the street, so my eye level was about 9 to 10 feet higher than the view from the street. I'm pretty sure it was The Austonian. It might have been 360, but then again, I've never noticed it from that spot, so I'm thinking it was "The A".

Okay how in the world did that guy even get into the Austonian??? You would think that there are security guards and such around the building. Its not even finshed yet.
