Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation is pursuing a 6-storey supportive housing project on 25th Street, on vacant land owned by the City across from the Police HQ. The development will include support services and community space flagged as a warming/cooling centre: https://pub-saskatoon.escribemeetings.co...ged&lang=English&Item=49&Tab=attachments

I'm not too sure, 4LSaskatoon! I got wind of this project from reporting on allSaskatchewan.

Sooo this may just be some fake news but has anyone else heard that Simons is taking over the Bay spot at Midtown Plaza?

I was just talking to a colleague about how Simons should take over that space. That would be incredible news for Midtown, if true, but I'm not holding my breath. Simons has been pretty intentional with their expansion outside of Quebec and I'd expect Winnipeg to get a store before we do.

I saw a TikTok "announcing" this last night. I thought surely the poster was a retail insider or something but he was just a regular guy. It seemed like trolling/wishful thinking, which the poster basically admitted in the comments.

I think it's likely that Midtown's owners would be pursuing Simons, whether it pans out remains to be seen.

I, too, have seen that TikTok and was hoping where there’s smoke there’s fire. Perhaps someone on here is connected to Midtown leasing and could drop a hint ?? ;-)

Wine and Beyond is going into that parcel by the Walmart in Stonebridge.

I remember many moons ago that was slated to be an Earl’s.

New Riverside Patio at Parktown

I had a nice tour of the new renovations of the rooms and suites at Parktown today. Very impressive! As well I was excited for a new riverside patio in town that they've just opened up:

*Fingers crossed I finally figured out how to post these imgurs

...gah, and it's huge. Where can you condense the image size when uploading or sharing?

I manually scale them down in MS Paint before uploading to Imgur

Patio is looking nice! I never remember that that place is there... have to check it out sometime.

I heard that Houston Pizza is going into the now-leased Lakewood BPs location. Don’t know if that’s real or not, I don’t think Houston Pizza has ever tried the Saskatoon market.

I’ve liked it when I’ve had it in Regina though.

I love the Parktown. I hate the clear glass on the patio. I'm not sure why people are obsessed with it. Birds hate it. A 10 degree grey shade hurts no one. You still get your pretty picture.

We are four months into a six month pause. Mostly because of economic uncertainty due the tariffs… which hasn’t hit us as much as we anticipated it might.

Lots of opposition to the DEED, but I think the city has invested too much in studies and land procurement to turn back now. But I guess we will see.

So here's why I was wanting to post these photos. This is a site in the old part of Warman (South Railway Street East). It appears to be the parkade for what is likely to be a multi-unit residential building. My first thought was Baydo, but there's no signage of any type on site, so I don't think it's them.

I've never seen a forming system quite like this one. It appears to be a light gauge steel forming system that gets bolted together, left in place after the concrete is poured, and then spray-foamed prior to backfilling. The other really odd thing is the plastic piping extending from the top of the concrete. Looks similar to pex pipe. I have no idea what it's for.

OK, time for an update on this unique project in Warman. About 6 weeks ago, I was walking by the site one evening and the builder was there, so I had a conversation with him.

Turns out it's not a multi-unit building but rather a single family home. There is no professional builder involved. It's being built virtually single-handedly by the owner in his spare time. He runs a business in Warman and has the ability to fabricate all of the steel at his business, so that's what he's doing. The structure is all concrete and steel, and the plastic lines cast into the walls are water lines to heat or cool the concrete, as required. The build will be a long one, as he's working on it only when he has available time. The basement level is basically a 6,000 sqft garage with mech & elect rooms, but the footprint of the occupied portion of the house is actually quite a bit smaller as becomes evident in some of the following photos. I asked him about the depressed corners closest to the road, figuring they were patios. He told me that they were areas that would be under landscaping and that anything covered with dirt get spray-foamed.

Just to keep this post from being too large, I'll post some updated photos in a new post below.

Photos of the unique Warman house. Not a skyscraper, but a really interesting home. Images from before and after the horizontal spray foam. I'll continue to post photos every few months as this fascinating build advances.
