Bush league city with a small minded city council.

No wonder our youngest and brightest people want to leave here and move to other cities.

It is crucial to have some form of bus connection with that airport. Council can waste money on all sorts of idiotic projects but when it comes to putting some money into a "trial" of all things the minds go blank.

Who voted on city council to not have service? The election is coming and I want to highlight them.

I know Mandel was pretty ticked off when they interviewed him yesterdat on CTV at 6. I think he held back on saying what he really wanted to say.

I was watching a bit of council's debate on Shaw TV yesterday. The reasons that councilors voted against the proposal were varied. Many were perplexed that nothing was tabled toward the ECRB as of yet, arguing that this is definitely a regional issue--so they voted no. Mandel wondered how the city could bring this issue to the ECRB if they weren't AT LEAST in support of this trial. I was left wondering if council's support of this would have created any sizable opposition from Edmontonians.

In any case, Leduc is still getting a peak-hour bus service that will stop at the International, starting this summer. If that bus is jam-packed, I think a case will be made for increased capacity if the issue is raised again this fall.

The majority of Major cities in Canada has public transit service...

I don't disagree that we should have a transit link to EIA, and not having it means we are not providing a level of service seen in comperable cities, but how that makes us a 'redneck' city, i do not understand.

^wrong term, right idea though.

Edmonton is suppose to be a 'major' Canadian city and not having 'major' Canadian city services means we are failing at some level. Failing at some level means that we have a city not understanding required elements of a major city. Not having those elements means we are not a major city. Being not a major city means we are a minor city, a 'small town' if you will. Many equate small towns, especially in western Canada, with being redneck.

Not to mention that after golf last week, i am guilty as charged, bus service or not.

^ perhaps 'hick-town' is more appropriate here. That's the word that came up when explaining the lack of YEG bus service to a colleague who is working in Edmonton over the next few months. Whether or not you understand how anyone could say such a thing, that's the impression the City is giving to the rest of the country when the inadequate status quo is upheld for no great reason.

LOL! I guess Cold got it but please use whatever negative comment you would like. Maybe "small-town thinking" is best.

No matter how you call it city council made the wrong decision based on political ineptness and bizarre logic.

I e-mailed the mayor and expressed my concerns.
Anyone who has not so far should do the same.

Well long time no hear from me,

I have had alot of personal problems as of late.I am on my way back to Edmonton in the next week to live.My wife has asked for a seperation and I am moving back to Edmonton to try to work things out (chasing after her).I have no idea where this is all coming from it just kinda came out of the blue.

The city council vote down on YEG service is sad to hear, YEG needs that!
