Very well could. As the area developed from essentially a settlement with no services and cart tracks for roads, into the grid pattern neighborhood it is now, I imagine that the grid needed to be laid down to accomodate what was already there, resulting in the random depth of lots that make the streets not line up. I'd never really thought about it before now.

Very cool. Was that a Dub design?

Christy Morin is this month's Global Edmonton Woman of Vision for her role in revitalizing 118 Ave. Hopefully Global puts up a link soon.

^I like how the editor had to put (left) and (right) in the photo caption so readers' can distinquish between Edmonton and Toronto.

It's incredibly easy to mix the two up

except the article was about montreal and waterloo and calgary as well as toronto and the photo caption probably addressed that more than "toronto vs edmonton" because all of their readers might not be as familiar with all of those skylines as you are with edmonton's. as an aside, it was refereshing to see a shot from the northwest and not just the typical view from the south.

all in all it was a "good news" article for edmonton and good exposure for our skyline. what's more incredible to me is how a good news story for edmonton so quickly gets shot down in edmonton of all places... inferiority complex? too thin skinned? too picky? whichever it's too bad, because taking shots like that doesn't help our reputation or get better exposure in the future.

Thank you Ken... exactly what I was thinking.

It's a publication on the internet... sure many may be able to identify Toronto, but many probably wouldn't know the difference between Edmonton and Calgary skylines..

Noticed yesterday that Chandos has their signage up at the Mayfair site. I don't recall seeing it last week.

^ Saw that last week too. I wonder if there were issues with Clark related to scheduling on the first building (I know they robbed some of the Mayfair workers to try & get the Fed on track)

Procura went with Chandos for MVN. The signage wasn't up when I passed by the site yesterday afternoon...but I guess it's up now.

^ I am sure it was up last friday when we walked by. I remember because I made a comment about it

Good to see that project moving forward anyways, regardless of the design "issues"

Also, I am scared to do any more renovations.

^ I helped a friend re-wire and plumb a circa 1920's house at 94th street and 117th ave.... In the basement, stuffed up between floor joists, ducts and pipes we found porn from the 50's. Lots of it. Yikes.

I heard a story from one of our longtime residents about a house in Cromdale being knocked down, when they were piloting the excavator to the demolition site the ground gave way and it fell 30 feet down into an old mine shaft.

This is for the Dub condo on Bellamy Hill

http://www.gov.edmonton.ab.ca/city_gover...osal-to-rezone-property-in-rossdale.aspx

Quote:
Citizens are invited to a public meeting about a proposed rezoning of 9847 Bellamy Hill NW.

Date: Tuesday October 9, 2012
Time: 7–9pm
Location: McDougall United Church, 10086 Macdonald Drive

The rezoning would change how the property can be used, from a High Rise Apartment Use (RA9 Zone) to a Site Specific Development Control Provision (DC2).

The DC2 Zoning would allow the opportunity for the development of an 86 m high, 29-storey residential building, with 26 storeys of residential and 3 storeys of partially above-grade parking. The proposed maximum Floor Area Ratio (FAR) is 4.5 for the residential portion and 1.5 for the parkade portion. The current zoning permits a height of 45 m and a FAR of 3.0.

Citizens attending the meeting can learn more about the proposal and have a chance to provide feedback to the City and applicant. Feedback will be summarized in a report to City Council before they make their decision on the rezoning.

Two Dub residential highrises in the pipeline = awesome.

Hopefully someone beats the Nimby's away with a stick at that meeting.
