I've always wondered why this building has sat vacant. Who owns it? It'd be a shame for it to get torn down.

Does Harvard also own the Downtown Physiotherapy building? Is that also coming down? I believe it is vacant also?

Regarding the Heritage building downtown it should not be torn down unless there’s a plan ,also we don’t need or want another TABLE TOP TOWER , make it Saskatchewan’s tallest and a different design

It's a hard pill to swallow. Like finding out the Easter Bunny is not real or Ben Johnson is not naturally so fast.

Yes, Harvard owns that. But they don't own 2184 12th Avenue. Harvard's not building any time soon, they probably just think it's a good time to get one of the historical buildings down since it's been vacant for years.

I agree with your comment not wanting another 'table top' tower, but realistically, it will probably be years before there is demand for that much new office space.

I'm sure Harvard has done little-to-no maintenance on these old, Heritage buildings, and are just letting them get to the point where they will need to be demolished. IMO, Harvard has been terrible for our downtown. I can only imagine what the office towers would have looked like if other developers had the chance (ie: River Landing in Saskatoon).

The Easter Bunny is not real? OH NOOOOO! I suppose you're going to tell me next that neither is Santa Claus.

They gave boat load of cash to Mosaic Stadium as a major sponsor. Paul Hill also gave $10 million to the U of R.

But he's a dirty capitalist who isn't a member of the proletariat so he's evil.

Seriously though, he actually does give back to the community.

It could have literally been any family owning that land and things would turn out the same. This worshipping of the rich is disgusting and pathetic.

Anyways, the point was that there is no incentive to do things like actually follow Regina's downtown plan when you have a monopoly on land and with powerful allies in government. They will demolish those heritage buildings and build another tower with no street level presence because following the downtown plan is not profitable.
I mean they did build a bunch of streetfront retail on Hamilton St, so they're not completely devoid of understanding.

Good to know. I like the smell of food
This is not true lol. I worked on the crushers there and direct next to it is a rotten rancid smell. The entire city smells of a aweful smell not like food - more like manure, but complaints have helped them ensure their scrubbers maintain the smell to as minimal as possible. Lloydminster’s crusher that’s basically downtown is a better example of maintaining the smell to an extreme minimal since the city grew around the crush plant there. Please kick and scream about the crusher’s emissions - force them to incorporate the highest quality scrubbers or people will say “that’s the smell of money” like they do in Yorkton - a city desperate for employment..

Open house shows public concept plans for proposed baseball stadium in Regina
As per the plant these new Facilities have the highest quality emission standards , If they where to be built in the northern city there would be no complaints p$$$$ en$$$

There are a lot of things that, if built elsewhere, would receive few complaints. But when trying to utilize central, valuable land in a city, we should try to make the best use of it as possible. There are great locations for farmer's fields, factories, parking lots, baseball stadiums, and warehouses, but the former railyards isn't one of them.

It will be great once the new baseball stadium starts construction with 50% of the downtown core a parking lot it’s a win win there has been nothing built downtown since the Gardens on Ross that’s pretty pathetic , the stadium will kick start the area , also someone mentioned on here that Regina needs a new hospital this couldn’t be further from the truth a perfect spot for that hospital would be the old Taylor field grounds

A downtown baseball stadium for the Red Sox would be an absolute disaster. Do people even know what type of league the CWBL is? It is not even semi-pro. It is just made up of college players who are looking to keep sharp in the college off-season. The league has such powerhouses as Melville, Weyburn, Brooks and Okotoks. Spending that kind of money on that league would be a joke. Maybe if we got a real minor league team it would make a bit more sense, but wasting this prime downtown land on something that would be unused 99% of the time is ridiculous.

I would point out though that a downtown arena seems off the table now that REAL is leading the way on that. I don't see private developers putting up enough $ to be able to influence the decision to keep it off the ex grounds. The only hope there is Brandt/Pats, who really would like to control the arena and to keep it free of REAL's bureaucracy and the unions.

A Pats arena on that spot would be nice. But I still would prefer it around the Broad Street area to spur some redevelopment on that side of downtown.

I noticed the new McDonalds at the 11th and Pasqua entrance to Evraz Pace is nearly complete. It is actually a great addition. Its a nice looking structure with landscaping, fresh paving, etc. A big improvement over the crumbling asphalt it replaced
