A downtown baseball stadium for the Red Sox would be an absolute disaster. Do people even know what type of league the CWBL is? It is not even semi-pro. It is just made up of college players who are looking to keep sharp in the college off-season. The league has such powerhouses as Melville, Weyburn, Brooks and Okotoks. Spending that kind of money on that league would be a joke. Maybe if we got a real minor league team it would make a bit more sense, but wasting this prime downtown land on something that would be unused 99% of the time is ridiculous.
I would point out though that a downtown arena seems off the table now that REAL is leading the way on that. I don't see private developers putting up enough $ to be able to influence the decision to keep it off the ex grounds. The only hope there is Brandt/Pats, who really would like to control the arena and to keep it free of REAL's bureaucracy and the unions.
