They were charmed by the ferry ride. IDK, but something charmed those execs. Maybe the went to NY Dolls on Murray St and Deblasio treated them with a private room. But hey... sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to get the business.
I'm willing to bet it was the space that is accessible from the start. Plus in the end, a city like NY will attract talent from all over the world. Not knocking on other cities, but the publicity is strong, and folks like NY period. It has more leverage and desirability factor.
I'd be like asking high quality talent if they would rather live in London or Riyadh.
Global presence, publicity, marketing... all play a role in the perceptions of people.
Strong regional economy as well.
There is a strategic reason why they picked NY and DC area.
The U.S. has many great cities, and I'm sure a lot of them would have been great picks, but at the end of the day, some places are just light years away when it comes to dominance. Just a fact that has to be accepted.
