Westjet's new flights announcement today is quite interesting...so many new flights to the Mexico from smaller centres in Western Canada that previously used YYC (primarily). I wonder what impact will have on the passenger volumes at YYC.

I may have missed it elsewhere, but when I was up in Edmonton for a visit recently, I noticed the Airporter has finally replaced those damn vans with far more respectable busses. Not the best busses, mind, but a huge improvement over what they had.

And now I note they're only going to stop at hotels where the service is requested. they're calling it "going green," just hope the hotels step up to the plate to make sure tourists know they need to call ahead.

lol. "going green" is really just a customer friendly way of saying "saving money".

Our hotel in Anaheim did the same thing. They said their air conditioning system is so environmentally friendly because it only works when you're in the room. In reality of course they installed the system because it saves them money. The fact that it is in fact environmentally friendly is just a side-effect.

I took the London flight and both ways, there was not a single seat available. The interesting thing is there were a significant amount of non-canadians on board. (could tell when standing in line and everyone had their passports out)

^^on my way back home from BKK via ICN and SFO a few weeks ago, over half the flight from SFO to YEG were rushed off the flight before people staying in Edmonton because they were late connecting to the YEG-LHR flight.
It was interesting to see so many people (not sure if they were connecting from another airport or originated in SFO) using YEG as a connecting airport from SFO..

I've heard that a lot of people from the west coast (US) connect through Edmonton on their way to London because it is the most direct route.

Your drop in international numbers was no doubt directly connected to the H1N1 outbreak.MMUN and other airports are recording record low numbers for parts of April,May and June.

Now I am glad to report for MMUN that the numbers coming back are very high...Air Transat for example who would be using a A310-300 for the summer for the YEG-CUN route is using a larger A330-200 thanks to the demand.

I would imagine all Canadian airports with Mexico service will have poor numbers for the effected months.

WestJet, Air France and KLM announce launch of interline relationship

CALGARY, PARIS, and AMSTERDAM, July 16 /CNW/ - WestJet, Air France and KLM announced that, as of today, the two European companies will offer interline itineraries that connect guests into WestJet's Canadian network. Initially, connections will be made through the gateways of Calgary and Vancouver, with the option to continue on to Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton.

KLM would be such a nice sight at YEG... but to be honest i am not so sure this is a good thing or not. I suppose it allows for some potential routes but it still feeds the wrong places.

I agree. My fear is that this just allows KLM to funnel more passengers more easily onto its flights from Calgary and Vancouver. Or it could be good to prove to them the demand is there (maybe?).

But seeing a KLM plane at YEG would be sweet.

There is nothing in that press release that is good for Edmonton - except that if AC see traffic from Edmonton to Europe funnelled through WJ to KLM and AF - they may reinstate the daily LHR flights and put FRA on 3 days. Lets hope that is the silver lining. West-jet owes Edmonton nothing and we are about to see that happen right now as they "innocently" suck passengers out to feed AF and KLM.

Air France will not fly into Edmonton, nor will KLM anytime soon. This contract was set-up to ensure that Vancouver and Calgary flights are full via funneling from Edmonton. Just a FYI.
