The rendering is just part of the rezoning going to council. The development permit will still be a bit. Staff are still working with the applicant on the form and character. Should be more changes to come.

I really hope you're right but from my personal observations renderings don't materially change when they go to the DP stage.

Huge 3 tower proposal for downtown Kelowna on Coronation avenue. The towers are 20, 27, and 30 floors.

I think your plan is forward-thinking, and I could definitely get behind it. The problem with road and transit infrastructure in BC is that it's all political. What would be bipartisan in other countries, is instead used as political debate points here. I mean, the NDP cancelled so much of what the Liberals had planned in BC (reducing the Hwy 1 expansion plan between Langley to Abbotsford being the stupidest decision).

It's hard to have a cohesive, long term transit/road plan in this province when the next government elected will just trash it. Everything becomes piecemeal due to the political process.

Thanks, it boggles the mount how there is no general plan / goal in mind.

All this does is making any major upgrades in the future far more expensive and disruptive.

Below is a good example. Do you remember the 14 Storey RCMP tower proposed? Below is revisions for the DP based on comments made by council at rezoning stage. Went from 14 storeys to 25 storeys to achieve a less bulky design.

Wouldn’t expect anytime soon. The revised drawings for the 25 storeys was only submitted a few days ago. Likely won’t get to council until early summer.

I preferred the old mid rise design for the old RCMP site. It had a bit more of a European feel to it, with more residences near the ground level to give a greater sense of connection to the businesses at ground level. The redesign is typical of Kelowna/Vancouver cookie cutter towers sitting above a podium. That being said I can see the heavy influence of the Innovation Centre on the new site's design. The redesigned tower is completely shifted away to preserve the Lakeview sightlines for occupants of the Innovative Centre and to some extent The Madison.

It's too bad, but there was likely backclash against the massing of the original proposal. I'm more disappointed in the massive downgrade in architectural quality for something that's going to be visible to visitors driving in over the bridge.

I agree, the new tower proposal - hopefully this is a generic design and not the final design - it lacks character. Too much concrete and too small of windows and glazing. Reminds me of Mission Groups rental tower on the North end of Bertram st.

In any case, it will be nice to start getting some density in the area between the two "cluster" areas Lawrence/Leon/Bernard and the Sunset dr North end area.

Its spread of towers is really quite apparent when driving down Bridge Hill.

Their rental off Bertram is fine for what it is, kind of hidden but much needed middle class housing. Kind of like West End Downtown Vancouver.

I agree. As far as aesthetics concern, the old RCMP site is way more impactful to Kelowna's image.
