I honestly don't know how it makes financial sense for a retailer to keep hopping around from location to location like that. You'll remember they used to be next to Costco in the current Kal Tire location.

I was also able to find the city's road network plan (dated 2007) which shows the old Regina Bypass layout as the city's current road network plan.

Bravo City of Regina.....Bravo.
Guess they have resorted to paper/poster form only for this project

I also tried some searching and found this, for those interested in Regina road network plans. Not sure how final it is: http://www.designregina.ca/wp-content/uploads/ProjectLists-Transportation-Dec12.pdf

Vic Square was apparently giving away the space. Bison Properties lost both Jysk and MWW to VS.

RCSD has a $50 million capital budget this year. Not sure where they think the money will come from. They also published this wish list:

École St. Pius X (approximate cost $25.5 million)

Deshaye Catholic School (approximate cost $23 million)

École St. Andrew (approximate cost $19 million)

École St. Mary (approximate cost $23.5 million)

Southeast Joint High School (approximate cost $35 million)

Seems like too much emphasis on replacing existing schools. I do not view that as a priority.

The Pasqua widening seems to have an 8 yr time horizon.
$40M for the Pasqua/ring interchange
$50M for a Sask / lewvan flyover ?

looks like some kind of long term wish list.

Everything in that section is based on 350k population. There's a later section with items for 500k.

I remember back in '85 that there was a plan for that Pasqua/Ring Road interchange. The ring to go eastbound onto RR east was to encircle the SW water reservoir. (At that time anyway.)

Interesting stuff on that hit list though!

I don't know why the Catholic division is asking for a new high school. Miller has room for over 500 new students. A new high school is simply not needed.

They're just planning ahead. After all, our city isn't getting any smaller.

The elementary schools are very crowded on both the public and separate sides.

With public enforcing high school catchment starting this fall, I expect within a couple of years, the separate system will follow suit. The idea is to even out enrollment and direct students to schools that have the space but have been lagging in population.

Did they move the French immersion out of Leboldus to Miller? With Leboldus overcrowded, I know the idea was proposed. International Baccalaureate is being moved to Balfou from Campbell for the same reason.

It's not that the schools are all that bad off, but St. Pius and Deshaye are bursting at the seams with students. St. Pius especially, with capacity somewhere in the neighbourhood of 250% right now. I'd venture to guess it's on the verge of exceeding fire code regulations for people in that building.

When the public school system has an issue like this they add a steel container to the side of the building and call it a day. (see. A.E. Perry). I'm glad the RCSD is looking into the permanent solution of a new building.

It is in the 235K pop horizon so it should not be too far off. I am surprised it will cost so much. It seems pretty simple.

They could have done it this year with the $$ they wasted on repaving 4 lanes of Prince of Wales from Arcola to Wascana Gate South. Not one person I talked too could see anything wrong with the existing pavement. It was probably one on the best surfaces in the entire City. Absolutely bizarre and incompetent.

I think what the city could really do to help out SW regina, with on/off-ramps is build an acceleration lane from the NB Ring Road to EB Arcola. between Ring Road and University Park Drive. This having to stop causes a lot of bad and un-safe merging. Essentially mirror what they have on WB Arcola between the same two roads.

My residential street got repaved as well, even though there wasn't anything really wrong with the pavement. They basically scraped off the top layer of asphalt, and then put on oil and a fresh layer of asphalt. Apparently part of the city's plan is to maintain roads before they need it, to avoid having to completely rebuild a road as often (which is considerably more expensive to do). So in theory, following this plan would be cheaper and result in better-maintained roads in the long run. Maybe this is why the city repaved Prince of Wales as well? Does anyone think there might possibly be merit in the city's current road maintenance plan, despite appearing at first to be a total waste of resources? (The city does still plan to completely rebuild roads that need it, but of course there's only so much money in the budget to spread around, at least without raising taxes.)

Was Prince of Wales just a repaving, or was there more work done? I think that will make to break whether it was a good use of resources. I'm happy to see some of the projects being done around the city. North Albert is getting new sidewalks, which was needed.

The RCSD does it too... Check out St. Angela. There are 12 portables there.

The 235K thing: does that refer to city proper or CMA?

(Thanks!)

I would assume that it'd be the City Proper. If it was CMA I think we are already there.
